Which Neu motor? - 10.31.2007, 09:12 PM

Hey everyone!

I was going to start a conversion topic with a light MT. I am going to use the $275 MGM ESC in it. I was wondering which NEU motor would be best for that kind of project on a 5s lipo?? Im looking for speed over torque as I should have an insane amount of torque off of the BL motor anyways.

I guess what I dont understand is the what is a 2f, 2d and the nomenclature of 1515 vs 1512?? Is there a chart of comperable KV ratings for them?

Thanks!

On 5s, the 1515, 1Y 2200Kv should be a solid motor for high speed and good torque.

Thanks! Is there a chart/ link that explains what each motor's nomenclature means?

Here is a chart with the neu kv info.
I personally would get a 1515 and aim for about 35-40k max motor rpm, but there are much more knowledgeable people than me on this board. 35-40k rpm divided by 18.5v gives you about 2100kv. So I would probably do a 1y, unless you planning on upping the voltage someday, then maybe a 2.5d. The 2.5d should run pretty well on 6s, while IMO the 1y on 6s is pushing it. But the MMM system is supposedly going to be a 1y with a 6s max, and castle claims theyve run it very successfully in testing.

Apparently I type slow, 2 people posted since i started this

There is also the chart that shows different windings/kv ratings & size etc on the main Neu website: CLICKY.
When you say light MT, how light roughly (could do with a link/pic really for my brain to mull it over), whats the intended voltage, and would you like to use the motor in something bigger one day, or just for lightweight stuff? The 1515 motor is generally used in the E-maxx, E-revos and 1/8 stuff, so you may find it is a bit too much torque/weight/size for a smaller truck. In which case the 1512 is a good choice (winding to be determined after prior questions are addressed)- it too is also used in lightweight Emaxxes since it stil has alot more grunt than a HvMaxx; Neus are truelly versatile motors.....

I know Neil. Trust me, Im no slouch when it comes to electric or time in the hobby. Most companies display a KV, draw, and everything else and that is the info that I needed.

As for the build, it is a multi board build and Im keeping the topic under wraps. This board is one of the forums that I am posting the build and crediting in the videos that will follow. But, I was stumped on how Neu labled their motors

lol, actually, it's been there for quite some time now (over 6 months at least). But, I'm glad it's useful.

LOL I never noticed the chart before but very familiar with the links in Brian's sig and everything else. I used to have more posts on this forum and have been on here for years (litterally). I did a jato proj, crt.5, buggy,e-muggy on this board on my old name and this one. I could not remember the old name and made this one. And before that, I was a frequent non-member peeping around. I love modifying and this board has been my bread and butter for a long time!!

Just placed my order! MGM, Neu, and alot of other toys. As bad as the muggy is this thing is going to be way more hightech! I cannt imagine it! I might have to swap electronics as the mugg is my baby!
