Lightning Stadium Pro - R conversion questions - 06.02.2008, 01:07 PM

Hey there guys,

I've just dipped into this conversion with the following:

*Feigao 7XL geared 14/49 (Mod1) with L size clamp/heatsink and fan
*Hyperion 5S 5350mAH (plugged into newer MM at about 20.76V)
*MM ESC with fan (while I wait or my MMM from RC-Monster)
*CC BEC
*MG995 servos
*Mechanical brakes with brakes on MM set at 10% and no drag brakes
*MM set at 50% punch control, lowest motor timing, 16.5V LVC and high start power

Here's the data from a couple of runs:

After about another 10 or so quick full throttle passes, motor temps were about 130*F - 140*F, ESC at 115*F and Lipo was under 100*F.

Ambients were around 90*F last night when I ran.

I think that this is a good set-up till the MMM gets here because the current was decent. What do you guys think? Should I be worried about something?

Thanks for any and all input.

Edit: changed the motor from 6XL to 7XL because that's what's in there. My E-Maxx has the 6XL

You planning on doing speed runs with it or bashing?

Hey jzemaxx, not to worry man, I am not after your record with this one

It's a basher for right now. It's plenty fast as it is. What do you think?

lol, is it a MT?? I thought it was a truggy? I was just asking cause those are some serious amps that motor is drawing through that MM. For bashing I don't know how that gearing will play out. Also those motor temps are pretty warm for just some small burst passes....but it is a 6XL. I ran the 6XL's in a twin config......ran WAY to hot.

Yah, it's a truggy, but it will be bunched in with the MT's at WFRCCC.

I made a mistake, it's got a 7XL and not a 6XL. The 6XL is in my E-Maxx. I still need to put some thermal paste between the motor and heat sink. So far, I am happy with how it ran as I tend to worry when motor tends go above 160*F. I'll be taking it out again today to a huge parking lot and a soccer field to check it out more. I might go to a bigger spur after I dremel the chassis for it.

Ahh, guess they are just going to stick with the tire diameter rule and that is all.

A 7XL is much nicer then the 6XL. As long as the temps keep in check after some sustained runs I wouldn't worry one bit. My 6XL's would quickly climb to 190+

Here's some pics I took after putting thermal past on the heat sink.

And with new shoes and rear wing dyed black:

You should worry about the heat on the motor. When I had mashers 40 series on that truck, it hit 150 degrees after about 5 speed passes. I was using a 1515 2y with a fan on it. Also, the lvc was kickin in on the 5th pass. When I switched to buggy foams, I was able to do 20 speed passes before the lvc kicked in and the truck was geared higher. The motor was warm to the touch and I did not have a fan on it. The more weight your tire is, the more amps you will pull compared to a ligher tire.

Hey there Blunten!

Yup, agree with everything you say. Nothing new there. I've geared it for about 40mph for bashing and everything seems fine. Motor holds steady at about 140*F and ESC at about 130*F.

I have changed back to the steel diff gear and the ratio now is 16/50.

BTW, I took out the mechanical brakes because the messy wiring was driving me nuts. So looks won over great brake feel:

Well, it does look like you have more space on the truck now :)
