Best way to lengthen battery leads - 02.11.2009, 02:36 PM

Can you just splice a piece in soldered up good with the same guage wire? What is the best practice without tearing the pack apart? Thanks

Have you considered replacing the ESC leads instead?

If you don't want to do that and you don't want to resolder new wires at the pack itself, I would use butt-connectors with the casing removed, but soldered in (not crimped).

Yeah, that works fine. Do one lead at a time to minimize the chance of a short. Strip off about 1/4" of insulation, tin all of the wires, then solder them side-by-side. If you solder them end-to-end, the solder has more resistance than the wire. Apply shrink tubing and you're done!

Turn the battery around in the tray so the wire is closer to the esc...

Shortest possible wires are always the best idea with any of the high power setups. More wire is more resisitance and those little electrons get angry if they have to run down too much wire...and anger makes them hot, which inturn heats up your entire system. So keep the wires short and your electrons happy!

If they are long enough that will be fine then. I still have to cut off the plug and put a Traxxas connector on it. Here is a picture of how short they are. It may work fine in the Slash.

Where do I start with this...

On second thought can you post pics of this, as I am sure Harold and Shaun (and possibly others) will be very interested on how to achieve 2 extra inches by hand.

Not ideal, but you could simply make an extension with Deans on each end...
