Question about a converted computer power supply

I was practicing on my old power supply and got the up to 12.46 with 2 1 ohm resistors paralled on the 5V line. It drops about a volt under load though.

Here is another thought: What about connecting the 12V and 5V from 2 different power supplies together in series to get 17V? The ground to the 110wall socket, on 1 PS, would have to be disabled right?

In this situation since I would be using the 5V rail can I put the load on the
3V rail and have the same effect?

If you want to get two power supplies, why wouldn't you just get a 12v lead acid battery. I went from using a 250watt chargery psu to a 12v batt actively being charged at the same time, and has been trouble free ever since. The power supply used to dip in voltage to much, or hiccup, or some other power instability issue, causing the Hyperion charger to reset.

Then you can even charge batteries a few times while out in the boonies where there is no power... it's nice to have. You could even find a second hand starter battery that would do the job for cheap.

Yeah, I could do that. I have 3 small 12V lead acid batteries from my son's
12V Power Wheels riding toy.
