Brushless configurations can be a bit of juggling act. In order to configure an efficient BL system there are several factors to consider such as proper voltage/motor kv/gear ratio etc.

Brushless motors require a certain amount of load to run efficiently. If your setup does not provide adaquate load you may experience an increase in motor heat.
In turn, if you are over geared (demanding more power from the system) you will experience higher ESC and battery temps.

In general
If your ESC/Batts are hot but the motor temps are OK then gear down or descrease the ESC motor timing to reduce the motor load
If the Motor is hot but the ESC/Batt temps are OK then gear up or increase the ESC timing to increase the motor load.
If the ESC/Batts & Motor temps are hot then you got major problems

You can always try gearing down but watch the temps. (as a burned up motor is no fun)
Let us know how it goes

Ill try gearing down, and bumping timing up. or different combonations of the two

hmm...I'm running a X1-CR, stock spur and a 14t pinion.

Motor (Tekin T8 2650) is usually around the 145-154F range

ESC (Tekin R1-Pro, two caps in parallel, 32v UBEC) is normally in the 170-185F range

Battery (TP 40c 5000mAh 3S) normally doesn't get over 110F.

Plenty of wheelspin at my track...dry and dusty conditions, usually.

Any input anyone?

seriously though...do those temps sound alright? I was thinking about changing the pinion out to either a 12t or perhaps a 17t.

Whats your ambient temp right. Esc is a bit warm. but that might be because its not ideal for the setup. the motor and batteries are fine

ambient temp is usually around 88-92F.

yah, I know the R1-Pro is screaming for vengeance right now. I just need to get off my lazy but and send out the two MMM and one RX8 for repair.

and thanks for the input. :) I was starting to worry that I was pushing the motor too much.

Scrounged up a 12, 14 and 16t pinion, will try them out tommorow at the track and see how they do

Dropped down to a 12t, motor temps came down to 160, hot but better. i cant gear the thing any lower-or I wont have enough drive to clear obstacles.

I have been running my timing at zero. would bumping it up help at all?
