Help Needed

Hi everybody

I have a friend at work who has a 6 year old Autistic child & he really likes Helicopters. I would like to help get him a mini helicopter, preferably a e-flite, for parts availability. I was thinking the double blade version for ease of flight, but would take the single blade version as well. If you have a complete package, please let me know. I have a old M8 radio with several receivers & novak switch modules, & cash if needed. Thanks Mike

The Syma S107G is a great first helicopter. Only 3 channel, so not too much going on, and coaxial with gyro, so it's very easy to fly. It's what I bought my 8 YO nephew for christmas, and he loves it.
If you're really wanting an e-flite (blade), I would probably go with the Blade Scout. It's 3ch again, never flown one myself, but should be pretty easy to fly. I have 3 other blade helis, and they are pretty tough.
Other choices would include the Blade mCX or mCX2.
I've flown a variant of the mCX (the tandem rescue) and it's very stable.
You'll want to go RTF, since these small helis have all-in-one Rx/ESC/Gyro/servo units. You're old radio system is probably not compatible. (Unless it's spektrum DSM.

I'd be no help finding a used one, bought most of mine new.
I think your best bet would be forum sales (rctech, etc.) Ebay if you're lucky.

I checked one for your links. That one for $20.00 or so from Amazon doesn't look to bad. With spare parts & extra battery's & shipping it would be under $30.00.

The battery on that one is non-removable. I mean, it can be replaced by removing screws and such, but it can't just be swapped out with a fresh one to keep flying like the blades. That is a very good point that I didn't mention.
The syma will get about 5-7 mins of flight, then down time for 45 mins or so to charge.
The blades will get similar flight times, and similar charge times, but batteries are easy to swap out and replace. Much more "hobby grade".
All of them are tons of fun!

I have one of these that is very lightly used you can have for the little guy.

Just let me make sure I can find the remote for it tomorrow during the day sometime. Send me a PM about this if you'd like it. No sense in spending a lot of money if you're not sure the kid will like flying or not. Some kids don't. Or he may be too young still.

Thank you for the offer, but i bought the one you linked me to on Amazon. I bought the red one with 3 spare parts kits & one extra battery. the total was $41 & some change. Like i said the kid has autism. His dad says he really like helicopters. I think thgis will be a good one to see how much he really likes it, & if he does not like , at least I'll know i did a good thing, expecting nothing in return. How long to swap out the battery ?.

never done it myself really. I'll go grab one and see how hard it looks.

edit: looks like only 2 tiny screws to get the canopy off, but the battery is soldered directly to the PCB. So I guess they sell the spare batts as more of a replacement when the one in the unit goes bad. You could always mod up a jst connector or something as well.
