Thumbs up Successfull test with 6s on Mamba Max! - 11.01.2006, 02:47 PM

Ok. I'm teasing you, but just a little bit. :005: I did a test with 6s li-ion M1 cells, which has slightly more voltage than 5s lipos.

I've got three 2s2p M1 packs that I wired in series on my Thunder Tiger ST-1 truggy with a Neu 1512/2.5D motor, geared 46/16. A ubec was used, of course, but no fans were used during this test. First, I did a test with 4s2p and got a gps speed of 34 mph. After about 10 minutes of playing on dirt and asphalt, the MM was at 160F, and the Neu was at 130F. So no problems there.

Next I strapped on the 3rd pack and crossed my fingers. I turned on the MM switch...and nothing blew up! Good sign. I puttered the truck around for a minute, and then nailed the throttle. The truck shot off and hit a gps speed of 49 mph! I ran the truck up and down the street for about 5 minutes, and then the truck stopped and the MM started beeping. I took a temp on the MM, and it was at 200F, so it had obviously thermalled. The Neu was at 160F. I waited a few seconds for the MM to cool, and then took off again. No damage done.

So it looks like the MM will be good for 5s lipo, as many people have been predicting. I'm sure that I am overgeared with the 16t pinion, so I will drop to a 12t to see how the temps are affected. If the MM is still too hot, I'll put a fan on it.

Thumbs up for the Mamba Max! :D

Thank you for sharing!

Were you running the ESC brake? I was told by Shawn to use mechanical brakes if I attempt 5S on that little controller. Just a heads up.

Keep it up!

Yes, I'm running the esc brake. It's currently set to 50%.

So are you volunteering for the first 6S Lipo test on the MM? :027:

I got a pic of the truggy with the MM and 6s installed. I also took a few quick videos of it. Nothing fancy, but it does show off the power. :D

Cool, lots of wires, I remember doing something similar using 16 cells (2x8) then a 2 cell boost pack to put it up to 18.

The videos aren't too good, get someone to film it for you! :D Looks like a nice gravelled road you have.
