Has anybody ever tried more than 20 cells on a BK warrior 9920 - 01.14.2007, 02:38 AM

I was looking on my 9920 warrior and noticed the capacitors are 50v each. I was wondering if anybody has tried more than 20 cells NIMH on one, I have no plans to try it, Just curious

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

The caps are just one part of the circuit. The FETs and other support components are another limiting factor. The "brains" are powered by the internal BEC and are probably the same for all BK's ESCs so that's probably not a factor.

Another theory: Caps are generally rated for certain voltage ranges. I've seen them at 5v, 6.3v, 10v, 16v, 25v, 35v, 50v, and higher. 20 cells is way too close to 25v to use. 35v rating is still a little close IMO since circuit designers tend to use caps that are rated at least 50% higher voltage than the working voltage. The next step is to use the 50v caps...

I was just wondering because with the mamba max, the caps are rated at 25v, but people can run 5s lipo's with little troubles. I was thinking it might be Way overbuilt. Thanks for the info BrianG, I already figured as much and will not test the limits, but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask

The people running the MM that close to the caps ratings are shortening the caps' lifespan. The electrolyte will break down sooner. However, in retrospect, people will probably blow other things on an ESC way before a cap "wears" out. :)

The HV-Maxx is rated 14 cells (16.8v) yet uses a 25v cap. I highly doubt an HV ESC can take that much voltage...Novak ESC's pretty much can't be pushed on their voltage levels, but they can support insane amp draw... I mean, 400Amps? Holy crap.

Then, running 6s on the 149.18 controller wont affect its lifespan?

and for the people interested http://www.irf.com/product-info/data...ta/irf7413.pdf this is a data sheet from the fets
the fets are 30v max but i don`t know how the other parts are rated

You may have another problem(besides the controller), Nick. If you are thermalling in 4 minutes with 6s Lipo, what motor/gearing are you using? I almost never thermal my warrior(I do use a fan).

That doesnt sound right Nick. 7xl on 16 cells is pushing it. Try a 9xl and see what happens. If that doesnt work than there might be a problem with the 9920.

6s on a 7XL is too much. Thats the problem. How hot is your motor on 6s. I bet its smokin!!!

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Motor is fine, well, hot but nothing that will cause any problems, ESC takes all that.

Thinking of a 1950 setup and a MGM, not sure, hard choice. I want to run my truck more than I shop for it. :D
