Road car -
04.17.2007, 09:51 AM
I wish to convert an onroad car to brushless. However, I will be using it in parking lots and on roads, so ground clearance may be somewhat of an issue. 1/10 electric is too weak and 1/10 nitro is too small of a platform to fit the motor and batteries I plan on using.
Enter the Inferno GT, as it is based off of a buggy. It uses a buggy drivetrain, should the inferno drivetrain be strong enough for a MM/feigao L or XL/ 4S trakpower brushless setup? (It is their budget line)
Other cars I have thought about are the mugen MRX-4R, Serpent (I have seen Serum's, awesome), and Evolva, which I think would all be harder and more expensive to convert than the Inferno GT.
Does anyone have any more suggestions? Are there anymore 1/8 onroads out there I should look into?

If you are only gonna use 4s, an RC10L4 would do, but controlling it needs lots of skill.
I'd pick up a Mugen MRX-4.

The mugen should work.
How about a Jato/brushless conversion?

I know! But I've seen guys set up their Jatos for "flat tracking" and they handle well and are scarey fast. So I thought I'd throw it out there for consideration.
Does HPI make a 1/8 scale on road?

They used to have the Proceed onroader, but I don't know if it's still on production.

I believe that OFNA makes the DM1 pro......if I remember correctly it's 1/7 scale not 1/8th but that could be an advantage.

I have seen the OFNA DM1 and Hyper One Seven, but they are huge and would require more expensive equipment (or maybe not, weight of nitro rtr is 4.1kg).
Has anyone seen a inferno gt or heard anything about it. It looks like a compromise between a road car and a buggy, which is good for me, plus it is cheaper than the other 1/8 road cars.
Also, what about the OFNA ultra GTP, which I assume is their answer to the kyosho inferno gt.

Go to the OFNA site & check them out Captain!
I'll bet that would be a great spot to put a Lehner 2200 series!

My friend, for whom I converted the 8ight, is now looking at the DM1. I did a bit of research and the reviews are not favorable. I'd look elsewhere.

I have decided on the Inferno GT over the OFNA ultra GTP.
I plan on putting in a MM ESC with a feigao 7XL on 4S trakpower lipo.
I also plan on swapping out the two speed tranny with a center differential.
With this setup, running 4.2 inch ofna rims and tires, and gearing of 44/16, BrianG's speed calculator gives me a top speed of 48 mph, with what i assume is pretty conservative gearing for something this size and weight.
This is plenty of speed for onroad bashing, plus I assume I can gear up for higher speed if I wish. Does anyone see any problems with this setup?
Weight should be around 8.5-9 lbs.
