which feigao? - 04.17.2007, 07:53 PM

i have a brushless evader with a max amps 8000hv 3s lipo and im running a mamba max esc with a feigao 380 6l but was wondering if i could use the 540 9l for more speed. i know it would take longer to spool up but with it having more torque if i used higher gearing would it be better in that way. right now im hitting about 55mph and running a 26 pinion with 88 spur. i can go as low as 86 on the spur size but where im at now seems to run at a good temp but the motor can really get hot when u get on it. any opinions appreaciated.

Ouch!

Yes, stepping up to a 540 series would be helpful.

Check out BrianG's calculator or talk with Mike Cronin (RC-Monster Owner and Brushless GURU!)

Or post your spur size, battery that your using, etc and one of us can run the numbers for you.

ok here is what i got. i have a 88tooth spur and a maxamps 8000mah 3s 11.1
volt lipo im running a 26 pinion and using stadium truck foam tires. and have had max speed of 53.5mph. is there anymore info needed?

oh i also found this if it helps
AznJunkie -> car gear ratio calculator (6/3/2003 10:19:19 AM)

Ratio for Evader:

Internal: (Transmission only)
2.66:1
Outer: Stock Spur gear (88t) / Pinion (20t)
4.4:1

To find out your final ratio. Take your spur divide by pinion then multiply by internal ratio. So:
Spur / Pinion = ? X 2.66 = Final ratio.

Sorry dont know how to get Max RPM.

Jeremy, the 9L would spin 30k rpm on a 3s pack, where the 380 6l does 53k on your pack. with your current gearing, the 9L would get you to 30mph.
a 46 tooth pinion calculates to 53.17 MPH.
your current setup, calculated to 53 MPH by the way.

I'll post the vid here in a few minutes.

I had an evader. On the model that I had, all of the parts were graphite. Graphite sounds nice and may be nice on a racer, but I find it to be far too brittle for bashing. You might try boiling your graphite parts to soften them up a bit and make them a bit more flexible. You might break fewer parts. It's what I used to do.

Yes, boiled graphite.

I just looked at the pic of the evader again. It's just an electric version of the buggy. For some reason, I thought it was a conversion.

Why are you looking to the 9L? A 540 series motor would be way too much motor for such a small/light vehicle. You said that you are looking for a cooler running setup, but running a 540 motor in a vehicle that small will make it very difficult to get it geared properly. I really doubt that you would be able to prevent an undergearing situation and undergearing a motor (severely in this situation I suspect) will cause the motor to over heat.

Maybe you should consider the Mamba 5700kv motor to run with that 3S lipo that you have. That should put you right at about 60K rpms and you'll still have lots of gearing options. If you want to go even faster, you could try a 4S pack with a 4600kv motor. Stay away from the higher kv motors. They are only good if you're limited to 2S lipo. When you run the hotter motors on more than 2S lipo, they get to be really finicky about the gearing and everything will run hot.

i was told by the guy at the hoppy shop that i could gear this up and get more speed but that was oviously wrong. ill stick with i got then thanks guys. what motor would be faster that i could run on a 3s lipo and maybe a 4s in the future so i can leave my options open.

A mamba max motor 4600 would give you 51,000 rpm on 3s and loads more torque so you could gear down and get the extra speed.

A 5700 would be pushing it on 3S producing a no/light load max rpm of 63,270rpm.

So I would say a 4600 would work.

Some other options on 3s would ba a Feigao 10s (3549k/v),Feigao 7L (3511k/v) or the Feigao 8L (3072k/v)

Other manufacturers such as lehner (model 1920 & 1930) or the NEU 1509 & 1512 provide additional options.

Best bang for the buck in my opinion would be the Mamba Max 4600. It's a perfect fit in a 1/10 scale stadium truck on 3s!

Keep the mamba Max 5700 & 7700 in mind if you only run 6-7 NiMh or 2s!

Many have said that these motors are very fast!
