Smile Newbie here need Info on set-up. - 05.03.2007, 10:08 PM

Hi guys I'm new to electric rc. I see it's mostly monster trucks but i think you can still help me out. I have a tc3 on-road that is stock. I love it! Even though it only last abut 5-6 mins a charge. I wanted to get a better motor and battery so it was have longer run time and i think brushless is the way to go? Power is fine but i'm mostly looking for long run times. I have a $150 - $180 budget for a brushless motor, esc and lipo battery. Could someone point me in the direction of what to buy or if they sell a complete set or if i should piece them together. Oh Also I will need a lipo battery charger hopefully not over $60-$70 for that. Thanks for any info. I can't wait to see the potential of this little thing!

Jerry,

The best bang for the buck system is the Mamba Max. They are available in 4600, 5700 and 7700 kv versions. A MM system can be had for around $135. Since you are just starting out, you'll really need to do a bit of research to decide what is best for you. What I usually do is to figure out what size battery I can fit into my vehicle. Since you're running the TC3, I'd suppose that you'll be limited to 2S lipo and they best choices would be either a TrakPower 4900 pack or an Orion 3200 pack.

The 3200 pack was designed to mimic the form factor of a 6 cell nimh pack and the 4900 is just a rectangular box with the cells inside. Get the biggest one that will fit. You'll have to look up the specs to determine that or just do a search and find out what people are running in the TC3.

If you are limited to 2S lipo, it makes motor selection pretty simple. Pick the 4600 for milder speeds and long runtimes. The 5700 for a bit more speed and a bit less runtime. The 7700 for stupid speed at the expense of runtime.

I really don't remember what I kind of runtime I was getting, but with the 4600 and a 4900mAh pack, you should get around half an hour, I think.

As for the charger, they really vary in price and features. You should do some research and figure out what features are important to you. I should say that a good charger and balancer combo will get close to around $200 and the battery packs are around $125 each. Getting into lipo isn't cheap.

you said that the power was fine so why do u want to get a brusless? just use all that money on lipos or if u do not want to get lipo get intellect 4200 much cheaper only about $50 and u do not have to buy a ne charger unless u have a cheap charger u could buy 2 4200=$100 and then u could buy a decent charger for $80

I agree with 1bhutch - if your happy with the stock power - get some lipos and be done with it - if you wanna really put a grin on your face ( and a frown on other brushed on roads guys faces ) then the mamba maxx is perfect... 5700 would surely make ya happy.. good luck

Hows that "Hope and Change" working out for Ya???

The power is fine at first i could use alittle more but it wears out fast. I was thinking brushless because i heard they had long run times and thats what I'm after. I'm mostly just drifting so thats why i don't need crazy flat out speed. I was just thinking how maybe i don't really need a brushless right now. I'll definately look into those intellect 4200's. I'm also looking for a motor alittle better than stock.

I knew the ESC could be had for that much itself. However, since he recommended the combo to the OP, I assumed he was talking about a price for the combo, especially since he said "system".

Just wondering, how much run time do you get out of your Emaxx with IB4200s? I got some off brand 4200s that get about 10-15 depending on how long my son holds the trigger ;)
