dumb battery question - 05.21.2007, 09:24 PM

when people say they are running 14 cells through a mm they mean 14s, right?
and is that safe with a hacker b50 10xl?

No no, 14s would be 51.8v! :dft002: 14 cells means 14 NiMH cells, or about 14.4v. When you see the "s", it assumes lipos.

And there are no stupid questions. In this hobby, considering the cost of our equipment, it is much better to risk looking stupid than being sorry later.

The S just denotes that the calls are wired in series, not the battery chemstry.

I run mine on 12 nicads in series, I've heard that they can take up to 14 nicad/nimh in series, but only 4 or 5 Lipos in series due to there higher voltage per cell.

Assumeing you mean Nicad/nimh you should be OK with 14 cells in series as long as you disable the MM's BEC and use a RX pack or Ubec.

I guess you come from the boat world like me, where its not that unusual to run subC's in paralel packs to supply big watercooled controllers and motors at 200+Amps sustained. Decent subC's will be able able to push the MM's 100Amp limit without paraleling cells, so if you say "14 cells" round here peeps will assume its in a 14s1p format, and if you describe the format they assume it is a Lipo.

Brian; the S doesn't represent lipo, it's the indication of series, which of course you know.. :)

14 cells of nicd/nimh can be setup in 7S2P as well.

It's just an odd thing it only happens to be used with lipo's since it's more common to put them parallel i guess.

Yeah, but just about everyone here uses the "s" for lipo cell counts and uses "cells" for NiMH. Must be one of those "de facto" standards. :)

That's pretty much the convention I've always used. Tho I would like to see 14S tried. :) Not on a poor MM tho. Did you see the CC SHV video? 0_o
