Wow, now 4 companies are battling to see who will come out with a nice HV brushless system: Traxxas, Novak, Castle Creations, and Tekin.... this will be interesting. :)

I agree... Great news to hear yet another company working in the right direction Can I sugest that when/if Novak does realase a HV system targeted toward the MT and 1/8 market that they use a full suze 540 diameter rotor in the motor. What exact;y does Novak consider HV. They currently refer to their 12 cell setup as HV. The folks around here are more inclined to think of 6s as the begining of a HV setup.. Usually more.

I consider 5s as being HV, only because there are no good controllers that do over 6s. :mad:1

Novak released its first HV system in late '04, so it is definitely in need of an overhaul. The existing products were designed before lipo cells were widely adopted and last year we started including a lipo (Smart Stop) module with each systems. The systems are currently rated for up to 14 cells, and the new versions will certainly exceed that (or, why bother?)

i hope the new one doesnt run at 70k rpm because that's BS.
need around 35k in a 1/8th.
i always tought novak's motor were hacker build?

All brushless motors sold by Novak have been designed and made---hand wound---here in Irvine.

My home town. If I had a good arm, I could have hit Novak, Associated, Mugen, Ofna, Hpi, Yokomo, and now Kyosho with a rock. Well maybe a short drive.

Novaktwo, welcome and please keep us updated. I have actually come full circle having started with the original SS, transitioned to the high power sensorless, and now I want to return to sensored.

But novak completely misses the point in terms of KV; and they get hot due to that as well, so i think we can call that 'lesson learned' and a more reserved kv value will be used by novak as from now?

I do hope so Serum. I was comparing the specs of the HV range of motors:
6.5 = 3100kv = 44640 rpm = 14.4v = 500 watts
4400 = 4400kv (original one I have) = 63360 rpm = 14.4v = 375 watts
4.5 = 4800kv = 69120 rpm = 14.4v = 800 watts

Those figures are way too high on the HV4400 & HV4.5, no wonder they get so hot and suck the life out of my poor cheapo batteries. The 6.5 has potential though- 45,000 rpms isnt too bad on 14.4v, and it has much more power output in terms of torque due to the newer sintered rotor. There is a video or 2 on youtube of someone running their Emaxx on 16.8v with the 6.5, and it is rather quick. I know sensorless is way better and cheaper by-and-large, but if I could get a 6.5 motor for fairly cheap somewhere, I reckon it would make and ideal upgrade having more torque, lower kv and cooler temps as a result. Food for thought, seeing as I am a 'casual' user rather than hardcore racer/basher.

Woah, I wish I could do 70mph in my T4, I have a 5700kv motor and 20C 11.1v Liopos but it just won't get there like the diagram says, lol...

I think the 45 would be a nice out of box set up to run.
I think a nice step to brushless being more popular and more options.

Novak two, I started with a HV 4400 and loved it. While i have moved on to more powerful systems i think the 6.5 and 4.5 are good starter systems. There are two types of people here that i can see, Type 1, the one who has to have the latest and most powerful and willing to do what it takes to get it. Type 2, those (like me) that prefer baby steps and like to change as little as possible at one time (call it baby steps). I started with novak, because it programmed the same as my dually and EVX.
