23mm wheels? - 06.01.2007, 10:09 AM

i finally found a new set of black Dace 23mm adapters :043: and am now hunting for 23mm wheels/tires. i'm tired of seeing the usual pro-line dish/wabash wheels with bowtie or crime fighter 40 series tires. i want something different - besides, i'm not crazy about the no offset effect. i want a slightly wider stance. i know the dish wheels come in different offsets, but those have got to be the ugliest wheels known to r/c (IMHO). they're the lightest wheels made, but i'm not concerned about weight.

i know axial has some bowtie-like 40 series tires, which is where i'm leaning right now. as for wheels, i guess i could pick up a set of wabash's and die them, but again - no offset. no likey.

and please - i won't even consider beadlocks. to me, those are best suited for crawling...and i don't even have a set for my crawler. :005:

what else is out there? for those of you with 23mm wheels - what are you running? is there something i've not found?

i use Integy wheels/tires SQ and on track they do great

tires are just 7g heavier than crime fighters and wheels are from bit more flexible plastic than proline disk wheels so they should surive all the abuse

and of course commandos with big joes for bashing :)

Proline does have their wheels available in half offset. I'm running the 23mm wheels for standard MT tires with half offset and they are just fine. I like to stick with the solid types of wheels as I believe that they take the hits better without warping.

i'm not a too big fan of the 40 series. It takes a relative flat surface to have full benefit from them. the new proline tires come with molded foams.

I don't like the 40 series tires/wheels on the track, but for bashing and just plain looks, they are nice; although they are tough on the drive train.

The 23mm hexes are nice and look tough, but they do limit your choice of wheels. If you want to race, you really need to go with a wheel that will accommodate the MTR series of tires. They work very well on the track. For the MTR size tires, you don't need the 23mm hexes, although I can see their benefit when running the larger 40 series tires.

thanks guys. wallot - i'll have to look into those integy's.

i'm not sure what to think of the 40's. as for the power to turn them, i have a 5955tg. there really isn't much in my drivetrain that will break (knock on wood). yet, they are enormous - which also makes the truck look pretty mean.

AAngel, where did you find 23mm wheels that accomodate MTR tires?

Proline has 23mm wheels in standard size as well. The MTR fits these rimms.

aaaaah, i was on their site this morning and saw 'HD' in that name... and thought that meant they only accepted the 40 series tires. now that i actally take the time to read what they say, it does mention that lol.

those silly velocity dish wheels are all they have in that format though.... grrrrrr....
