Ok so I ended up going with the 5700kv, battery questions?

Ok so I ended up going with the 5700kv, battery questions? - 06.18.2007, 08:14 PM

Well like the title says I went with the 5700kv mamba over the 4600 I originaly orderd. I figured a 4600kv on 3s lipo will be unesasary, and to much uncontrolable part breaking acceleration for the rusty. So now im thinking of sending back, my duratrax ice charger since I dont even have a power supply for it other then my car battery, and get the MRC 977 super brain charger . And one IB4200 7cell , and one IB4200 8 cell battery, and MAYBE one polyquest or 4000 mah maxamps 3s lipos. My question is where is the cheapest place to buy a 7 and 8 cell IB4200 battery?

Also I still may consider keeping the ice charger and get a 2s lipo and one, 8 cell nimh or a small 3s lipo to go with the 2s.
But only if there is some really good advantages to keeping the ice and going 2s lipo, witch Im not sure of execpet that its $150 more to get two lipos then 2 nimhs, and to spend 100 dollers on a battery to go 35 mph throws me off too.

What kind of run times can you get off a 5ah or 6ah 2s lipo with the 5700kv motor, and what kind of run time can you get out of a 4200mah+ nimh cell running that motor with medium bashing? thanks guys

Clifnotes, I can keep the ice charger and get one 6000ah 2s , and one 5000mah (3s motor killer)

Or get the MRC superbrain, and 1, 7 cell 4200mah nimh, 1 8cell 4200mah nimh, and one maxamps 3c 5 or 4 ah lipo later down the road all for the same price as above, and I will have dual charging capabiltiys and a ac power supply.
Unless some one says somthing diffrent I think its best to go option two.

well does anyone atleast know the average runtime I can expect running the mm 5700 on 4200 or +mah nimhs?

I run 3800 li/mn 3s on a 5700 and 4600. I get 10-15 min on the 5700 and 15-20 min on the 4600. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forums. This subject has been visited many times. Do a bit of research. There is lots of information here.

Asking what kind of runtimes you can expect is kind of a loaded question. It all depends on the terrain, your driving style, the vehicle, the tires, etc.

If you want the most runtime, just get the biggest battery that you can fit into your vehicle. The 5Ah packs are a good bang for the buck and a good trade off between weight and runtime.

If you can afford it, go with lipo. It's just plain better all the way around.

I agree, its a bit loaded, but i run 4.4k maxamp 6 celled packs for a while in my 5700 setup and got close to 20 minutes with them on track practicing. The only problem with NIMH and brushless is they get really hot, I mean like 160* in 90* temps. A friend who races oval cars told me it was ok, because they were under 70*over ambient ( 95* at time), but i never like to run anything over 130 if possible. At time the batteries were 160, so were the esc and motor

Thanks well I was planning on going lipo, but I dont want to spend 100 dollers on battery to go 36mph, and to go faster spend $130 to go 60mph with a real hot 5700 setup. So I would rather go inbetween thoese speeds and save myself 160 dollers and get myself a 7cell and a 8cell IB4200 or somthing else.

Dont all mamba setups seem to get that hot, I seem to think it would be ok as long as I dont get above 190.Why would nimhs make the brushless run real hot? Dont most people not trying to spend a fortune, maybe not this forum, use nimh and have good results?

The motor probably actually runs a bit cooler on ni/mh, it's the batteries that really get hot, as they can't put out the full amps being pulled by the ESC/motor.
