Novak or Mamba

I have a friend on another forum that is considering a new brushless system for a 1/10th scale TC3 touring car. This would be specifically for carpet racing. Here is the track.

I recommended the Mamba but he has had good experience with Novak products and is favoring the Novak XBR Sport.

I don't have any experience with that Novak system so I really couldn't give an good argument to convince him to get the Mamba. The Novak will probably suit his requirements just fine. What puzzles me is that he says he has heard too many people having problems with the Max to give it a try. I replied that it was likely that those who had troubles had either insufficient batteries or gearing issues. I'm not sure of any other reason why people would have issues with the Mamba Max systems in their 1/10 scale touring cars. Just wondering if anyone here has experience with both systems and if which you would favor. Again - please consider the application. This is specifically for carpet racing. So consider the functionality, performance, reliability issues as they apply to carpet racing only. Thanks guys.

Yes, for racing, I think the Mamba Max is good, but your frind should get the system that is used by most people at the track.

it depends really as the mamba max systems will be much more powerfull than the novak you specified. but that track looks very tight and technical which makes me think a less powerfull system would be ideal.

The 4600 mamba max system should work nicely and run as cool as a cucumber.

Tbh the only novak controller I would get would be a GTB and then get whatever sensored motor that will enable you to drive consistently fast on that carpet track.

A lot depends on whats legal at the track, If they follow ROAR rules the novak is the only choice, but if not I'd go with the 4600 for that track

Ah - good point. He's running a lipo so I'm guessing they are not strictly ROAR compliant.

Wow that track looks really tight. I bet they run a lot of stock there.

I'm a BIG fan of sensorless and the Mamba Max systems, but the Novak wins in terms of all out smoothness. For running on a track on 2S lipo or the nimh equivalent, the Novaks are hard to beat for 1/10 scale.

The Novaks are not the best for all out speed, but all out speed isn't what it's all about on the track in a race environment.

Well, the Mamba ESC can run any motor (sensored BL, sensorless BL, and brushed), except for the few problem motors which should be fixed with the elusive software fix. The 4s/12-14 cell voltage and 100A can't be beat for the price. And you have practically limitless programmability. And, if something ever goes wrong out of warranty, it's only $50.

Surprised to see the votes are going to novak, while reading the reactions everybody recommends the mamba setup.

I say Novak if he's racing. But instead of the XBR, I think a GTB/SS 8.5 Pro would be a better idea if he can swing it. That's my opinion.

ET is correct in advising the 8.5T SS Pro motor for racing. It features the sintered rotor. also, Novak has a limited quantity of rmf GTBs (original version) up on Shopatron for $129.00, same price as the new XBR controllers.

Novak motors are more efficient and better motors than the mamba motors. I am sorry, but this is all I hear when I comes to head to head comparison that people have actually witnessed and not speculated. Also, if you are racing, why would you choose a sensorless system over a sensored system, when sensored systems are clearly better for racing? If you go novak, don't get the motor that comes with the XBR sport, because it doesn't have a sintered rotor. May as well get the gtb anyway since it has no motor limit and will run cooler.

Arh, we are not too negative about novak; i just made the purchase of my life; i ordered a sintered rotor for the hv4400.. Who knew..

I know sintered/segmented makes a huge difference.
