Attention Eagletree owners: Assistance Needed - 09.05.2007, 09:40 PM

One of the most frequent (and unanswered) questions on this board is "how much runtime will I get with XXX batteries". I know there is a thread already that has some of this information, but I'd like to request a little more.

I plan to attempt to create a runtime calculator/lipo selector as part of the R/C Calculations site, but I need some data. I'd like the following information from those with an eagletree device (or any similar e-logger):

- Vehicle type; 2/4wd, ST/MT/etc.
- Approximate RTR vehicle weight in pounds
- Drive style (racing/bashing)
- Top speed in mph (approximate)
- Battery capacity in Ah
- Runtime in minutes
- Peak current draw (this is where the e-logger is needed).

Ideally, I'd like a few examples of each combo. Once I compile this information, I should be able to come up with an algorithm that will roughly calculate estimated peak current and runtime. These calculations will be approximate, but should at least set people in the right direction.

Along with the runtime calc, I thought a lipo selector would be handy for those wanting to know what capacity and C rating lipo they should get. This data should help with that as well.

I don't know if this will even be worth the effort, but I'd appreciate any input. Please copy and paste just the list items above with your values. I plan to make a script that will parse this thread and extract the data automatically, so a consistent format would be ideal.

Thanks in advance!

OK, since there have been no replies, I will assume that this effort isn't needed. So, I don't wanna hear any more questions about runtime and "how many amps does my motor pull"...

Its very hard to give you exact time as I make breaks between runs and pack just lasts too long

- Vehicle type; 4WD FLM-MAXX
- Approximate RTR vehicle weight in pounds - 13lbs
- Drive style (racing/bashing) - bashing
- Top speed in mph (approximate) - ~43mph (your calculator)
- Battery capacity in Ah -8000 5S TruRC
- Runtime in minutes ~35mins (based on 1650 mAH for 7.3mins)
- Peak current draw - 103.46Amps on full acceleration from standstill

- 4WD , MT
- 13lbs
- bashing
- 43
- 8000
- 35mins
- 103.46

Hope it helps

- Vehicle type: buggy 1:8 (4wd)
- weight in pounds: 8.82 lbs
- Drive style: constant full speed bashing (actually more racing)
- Top speed in mph (approximate): 42 mph
- Battery capacity in Ah: 2300mAh (10 cells A123 -> 33V)
- Runtime in minutes: 13 minutes
- Peak current draw: 44A

I think you should add cellcount (voltage) or better watt hours of the battery pack. My former 4 cell setup (14,8V) with 4800mAh gave me nearly the same runtime. Energy onboard (Watt/hours) were almost equal to my 10s setup.

good luck with this interesting project ... so many variables to consider to get a good estimate.

I would help, But i don't attach my Eagletree to anything and let it hang Most of my runs are just a few minutes and on road so as not to jostle the eagletree too much. I got one of those BNB dataloggers coming and from its looks, it might be better to mount and I can get better info to help you with this. Good luck, If anyone can do it, you can

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Thanks for the responses so far. The more sample data I get, the better I will be able to calculate a closer estimate...

- Vehicle type; 4WD Modifyied Mini Quake
- Approximate RTR vehicle weight in pounds - 1.8lbs
- Drive style (racing/bashing) - high speed runs
- Top speed in mph (approximate) - ~40mph (your calculator)
- Battery capacity in Ah -1700 3S E-Tech
- Runtime in minutes ~20mins (based on 1150 mAH for 13.5mins)
- Peak current draw - 14.78Amps on full acceleration from standstill

- 4WD , ST
- 1.8lbs
- bashing
- 40
- 1700
- 20mins
- 17.78

Batteries are trash, ordered better ones, they have huge voltage drop
