Perfect conversion truck/muggy/truggy -
10.05.2007, 11:36 AM
So....if one had about 4-500 to spend on a roller to convert (not necessarily including motor/esc), what would you pick? LST2? Revo G2R2? Losi Muggy? MBX?
1/18TH scale (ie., mini LST2, X-Ray)....
I already have a Revo and a emaxx in brushless - and I'd kinda like something with a different flavor. 1/18th intrigues me, but 1/8th does also. And, as I already have a Revo, I've always looked at the GMaxx with some envy.
I know this may be like asking what the favorite color the sky is......everyones answer is going to be tailored after their own needs, and in a lot of cases, what they actually have.....
Losi 8T 1.0, Savage Flux - XL style, LST XXL, Muggy, 3.3 E-Revo Conversion and sitting outside 425hp, 831 Tq Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel. It SMOKES

I am getting ready to do a Xray XT8 truggy. It's one of the best looking truggys available if you ask me.
I have done the 1/18th scale thing for the last couple years. It was fun, but nothing like the bigger vehicles. I would highly recommend the Vendetta ST if you are doing 1/18th. It needs a few hop ups - diffs and universals, but after that its a tank.

I think that I can safely say that I've messed with all of the bigger name stuff, except the new AE RC8. Of all that I've seen, messed with and converted, the X-Ray seems to be the best available right now. In terms of fit and finish, the XT8 kit is second to none. If I do another conversion for myself, it will be an XT8.
Even if you don't think that the XT8 is the best going, you would be hard pressed to make the argument that going with the XT8 would be a bad choice.

My vote goes to the Yusa Buggy.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
My most fun conversion so far has been a Hot Bodies Lightning Stadium 10. It is a 10th scale truggy. Very beefy, stout diffs and a center spur with slipper clutch. It is bigger than the crt.5, and a little smaller than the emaxx. Fun to play with, that is all i do, no racing for me. And they are cheap, like less than $200 for the complete truck new, and you can sell the nitro motor, shaft starter, etc to recoup the investment.
I have not finished my lst conversion yet, but it looks like a fun, sturdy vehicle too.

i think my next conversion is going to be a LST2. i want to go bigger than the maxx, plus i want something i can just bash the heck out of (even though it'll need some upgrades to keep up with BL power). i have one truck i went waaaay overboard upgrading, and i need to be nice to it. maybe keep it on a shelf most of the time. but now i want something that may not be uber-fast, but is big and can take punishment.
i've also had it in the back of my mind to possibly find a used 5b and convert that...but i don't know if i can find enough bashing room for 1/5 scale...

BL stuff for something as big as the 5b would be costly indeed...

That would definitely be a sweet conversion to do the 5b, but with it only being 2wd, I don't know if it will bve very conrollable with brushless power.
The G3R would be great, as well at the RC8. I am curious to see how the RC8 is as an overall package. Seems to be very solid IMO.

shouldn't be any worse than any other 2wd buggy or stadium truck, right? i believe it has a center diff. BUT, i doubt i'll do the 5b as i've heard HPI is working on a 4wd version for a while now. that will be hard to resist!

The X-Ray XT8 looks like a great truggy, but $700 seems pretty hefty. Does anyone else sell those kits?

How about CEN products such as the Matrix?
I agree on the high price tag on the XRay. I think I'd be afraid to drive it!
That AE also looks promising. It seems the more I look, the more I like truggys as opposed to buggys - albeit, the differnence is subtle.

The LST is no Maxx, yknow :) This thing is BL-proof (and probably moron-proof) to begin with! It's a huge difference between a Maxx and an LST2, I had a Maxx and started the LST as a side project but now I don't want to go back...

yep, i've heard the LST is no maxx. but, someone in another thread about the LST/Aftershock here on RCM said he had to upgrade almost everything to handle BL power. it prolly all boils down to driving style, like anything else. i hardly ever broke much of anything my maxx pre-SM, whereas others were constantly breaking bulks etc. i'm most likely having a titanium chassis designed to accept an emaxx tranny built to do a LST2 conversion - the guy making the chassis has 2 LST2's, and says the diffs are a big weakness but everything else is incredible. so, lots of opinions, but mostly that it's pretty darn tough out of the box. which is what i like.
moron proof helps, too.

I think I've decided that the CEN Matrix TR Arena looks like a very nice Truggy http://www.cenracing.com/area51/51_truggy.html
The chassis looks a little tighter than most, but after doing a Revo conversion, it cant be that tough, right?
One of the resons I like this one is that it looks bashin' tough. A lot of the other ones look like buggy's with bigger tires on them.
