Slipper locked up. Any help? - 10.07.2007, 07:27 AM

I melted the Ofna spur gear off my slipper yesterday. I only had it backed off 1\8 of a turn. I tightened it up to 1\8 because I noticed that at 1\4 backed off things were getting really hot. Its my thinking that the tighter the slipper kit the less heat will be generated. I put the spur gear back on the slipper router plate and tightened it up all the way. It still slips. I can hear it. There is no heat coming off now. But I worry if I will ruin something having it locked tight. Any thoughts? I am running a Lehner 1950 1800kv with a MM on 2 6000 mah 2s2p maxamps in serious. Thanks.

That's the trouble with slippers and high powered setups. The potential torque is simply so high that it can be difficult to find a setting that will slip somewhat to help protect the drivetrain while not melting, yet tight enough to transfer all the power to the ground.

As I see it, you have two choices;

1) Set the slipper tight so you almost don't have any slip at all. About the only thing this will protect against is landing from a jump at WOT. But, you shouldn't melt anything from normal running. You may strip drivetrain parts though.

2) Set the slipper so it has moderate slip which will protect the drivetrain more, but also set the ESC punch control so that there is less torque on takeoff and heavy acceleration, which is where the majority of the slip happens.
