2wd touring car + super tall gearing = what motor? - 10.18.2007, 07:56 AM

So I have my top speed touring car project underway, and actually got one of the harder things figured out already, but now am torn with a motor/esc choice. Usually I'm having the opposite problem.

My problem is that I have it geared crazy high final gear ratio, 1.67:1. Even on a light touring car, that is still pretty tall.

So I can't decide on a motor for this. I'd like to use a small size, like the Neu 1509 2400 k/v in the RCM store, but wonder if I need to go up to the 1512 series, for a bit more torque.

I want to use a Neu motor for sure. My Kv rating should stay around the 2000 mark (ideas here too).

I was actually thinking of using a Mamba Max 4600 setup, but am not sure that it can handle that kind of gearing without heating up (kv high).

Throw me some ideas on this gloomy Thursday.......

id go with the mamba and try and gear down just a bit. the extra kv will make up for the gearing

Or go with a smaller current MGM, run it at high voltage (6s) and get a motor with around 2000kv. The Neus don't mind the higher rpms and the high voltage on a cooler motor will keep the current down, which is better for the ESC and smaller battery packs.

Don't waste your time on the mm 4600 motor, it will not pul that gearing, or anywhere near that gearing. I would say to go with what brian siad, 2000kv and 6s lipo. I have a tt-01 running a 7000kv motor on 3s lipo and get around 80mph, but it is only good for quick runs cause of temps.
