Futaba 3PKS and FASST 2.4 modules - 10.19.2007, 01:45 PM

Hi guys,

Any Futaba 3PKS users here? I just recieved my brand new Futaba 3PKS combo pack with the Futaba FASST 2.4 Ghz TX and RX modules. I have a question regarding the antennas. Now if I plug the FASST TX module into my 3PKS, I don't need the stock transmitter antenna anymore, do I? The Futaba 2.4 GHz module has it's own which takes over the duties, correct? Can I just unscrew the stock telescoping TX antenna then, or does it matter? Pretty basic question, I know, but this new 2.4GHz technology is new to me, even though I've been RC'ing for years! Thanks in advance.

No, the stock antenna is no longer used. But, if the antenna is out of the way when retracted, I would just leave it because I know I'd lose it otherwise.

i took the telescoping antenna out of mine and replaced it with an aluminum plug made by kmw products. some pros leave it in because they think it helps balance the controller. this combo is so fast when used with digital servos, felt twice as fast as my dx3! make sure there is some kind of plug in the hole so water and dirt don't get in. enjoy!

luxury!

Thanks guys. I appreciate the reply. I tried to remove the stock antenna and while it unscrews, I couldn't pull it out very easily. There must be some sort of seal or gasket in there that it was hanging up on. Frankly, I don't mind the stock antenna. It would have been cool if Futaba would have offered a 3PKS with the FASST module already installed, and then the case could have been built from the get go without the telescoping antenna and mast, but I'm still happy to have my new radio system.

Can't wait to try it out. Just need to figure out which truck it's going into first and which digital servos I'll buy.
