I have a Savage SS K4.6. The only things I've needed to upgrade so far after over 2 gallons are the clutch shoes, went to the Nova aluminum shoes and Mugen 1.0 springs. Upgraded the stock 39 tooth gear in the transmission to the new heavy duty hardened steel clutch holder design. Made a center skid plate from a peice of scrap polycarbonate from work after coming down on a rock and bending the brake discs ending my day running it. Added the safety engine stop button. Will probably upgrade the diff cups to aluminum sooner or later and looking at a set of offset wheels and maybe a set for the street too.

that 39 tooth 2nd gear upgrade is a must have for those bigblocks. petty it doesn't come standard..

Can you tell me if the output cups on the diffs that come with the k4.6 SS are HD as well? (chrome finish) i thought that the whole drivetrain was HD, the input cups on the diffs, output cups on the transmission and the outputcups on the diffs.

I want to get a 4.6 kit to convert to brushless but it is currently unavailable here in Holland..

Agreed, the kit should come with the stronger 39 tooth second gear but it's not hard to install it.

The diff cups are a hard plastic type. People on Savage Central seem to start having problems with them around 4 gallons or so.


That sucks that the new kit isn't available there, aside from a couple small things already mentioned it would make you a great truck to convert to brushless. So far I've got no real complaints with it and it's my first nitro. Maybe you can get one through Ebay?

Yeah, ebay is an option, but the shipping costs for a truck is about 70-90 dollars.. i meant the drivecups. The ones that drive the dogbones.. (all of them are HD right?)

If you ever need to upgrade your diffs, get the HB lightning diffcup it is as tough as possible... (better plastic than the HPI cup, plus it has a metall output instead of plastic. You only need another bearing (the same size that is used on the wheelside))

Yea all the drive cups are heavy duty. I was actually considering an aluminum set of diff cups when they are ready to be replaced, likely the Fastlane Machine diif cups. Haven't heard of the HB lightning cups though, perhaps I may consider them as well.

They are a better option than the aluminum types.

Be sure to cut shims inside them. They will last a long time if you do..

Toghether with a GPM/Dynamite diffhousing or the soon to be released bulkless FLM conversion it will be bullet proof...
