Yeah, so anyway, I decided I wanted a truck. I figured, while I was at it, it should be 4wd too. I also thought, well, I've always loved the looks and durability older Toyotas have. I knew I also wanted a 4 banger because they run forever and still get somewhat good gas mileage. So after all that, I found one in the local Classifieds magazine not too far away, checked it out, and now, I gots this:
'85 Toyota Xtra Cab with a freshly rebuilt 22R 4 banger, stick shift, 35" Maxxis tires, and (coolest of all) solid front axle. The rear has already been regeared with 4.88's, but I plan to add a locker to it, and regear the front to 4.88's with a limited slip too. It's lifted around 5" or so, plus 2" body lift, and I think I'll stick with that......we'll see. Oh yeah, all for $3k: w00t!
Only issues right now are minor:
1. One of the battery leads broke off, so it's a two man starting procedure, then just run it off the alternator (which it does fine). Should be a simple fix, I'll show it off to my Yota friend and go from there.
2. Brakes........it has barely 25% braking power right now, guy had "cahones" quite a bit bigger than me to drive it to my house on the freeway at 75......most of the braking is done by down shifting. Again, I'll hit up my Yota friend and other gearheads and see what it could be.
3. Carb is real rich right now, not sure if it'll smog (stupid California laws. Once again, Yota friend and other gearheads will be consulted.
