Liquid Electrical Tape for Deans - 11.23.2007, 09:10 PM

I always seem to have a small gap in the shrink wrap on my Deans connectors. I saw something called liquid electrical tape in a catalog and thought it might work to cover the pulled away shrink tube gap. Anyone ever used this stuff?

I use it all the time. I pick it up at Home Depot or Harbor Freight.

Messy stuff IMO, but it sertainly has it's applications.

I've got the same gaps in the deans where the heat shrink pulls away when shrunk. I don't do anything about it, suppose I can't realy see how I'll short anything to that spot.

I have used the liquid tape to fill the back side of my trailer plug on the truck, keeps the water out....

If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

Worked fine on my Cirrus servo in my Tamiya Touareg, maybe something was different with that plastic though. I really like it, but if you don't use it for a couple months it dries up......only lame part about it.

I have used the liq elec tape - I use a 100' ext cord for the leaf blower/edger and from the days when I had a elec mower I nicked it in a few spots. Thats seems to be the perfect use for that stuff - made for a great repair. But it does not store well or for long either.

I make sure I push the shrink down on deans as they shrink, but I still get the gaps as many times as not. They've never caused probs and I've never done anything about them either. I

I use some aprox 1/2" shrink tubing to cover the whole thing, the plug and the gap your talking about. Works good, it's quick, it's easy and it's easily removable. It also makes the deans easier to grip onto.

To keep the gap from forming on the heatshrink, push it lightly towards the plug as it shrinks.

lol. Wellll, I would hope that would be simple common sense. OK, how about this:

"To keep the gap from forming on the heatshrink, push it lightly towards the plug using needle-nose pliers (or similar instrument) as it shrinks."

Get yourself a few pair of hemostats - diff sizes and diff shapes, thay are amazingly handy for RC work. I use them for all kinds of tasks - my fav is having to get a 5.5mm nyloc on a screw that you can barely see somewherer up in the assembly, hemostats are great for that!

Can find them at flea markets - I see them at gun and knife shows - cheap. Hospitals go thru them by the truckload and then dump them as used.

PS Pair of hemostats is what I use to push the shrink down while heating - saves the fingers, lol!
