New to brushless 1/10 scale. Help!!!!! - 12.17.2007, 02:49 AM

I just bought this truck on EBAY(sorry, I just pasted the ad) and need to know which BL ESC/Motor combo to choose. Not so concerned about $ just dont want a Novak. I currently have 2 maxamps 11.1v 5000mah lipos that I would like to utilize.

Maximizer RRP Diffs: $68.95x2 (Front and Rear, Alloy Cups with RRP Steel Ring & Pinions) ***

Pro-Line Steering: $33.99 (Integrated Servo Saver is both tighter and smoother)

MIP (Pro-Line) CVD’s F/R: $20.00x2 (No broken axles... EVER)

MIP Center CVD’s: $45.00

RPM Bearing Carriers F/R: $25.00x2 (Bigger bearings take abuse)

Newer 3.3 Bulkheads: $6.00x2

Aluminum Servo Horns: $9.99 (Blue anodized for steering/shift duty)

Traxxas Lightweight Internal Shafts: $10.99

RRP Clutch w/ Steel & Plastic Gears: $36.99, $7.59 (Better than the REVO clutch by far)

Unlimited Engineering Idler Gears: $32.00

Big Bore Shocks w/ Nitride Shafts: $63.99 (Smooth and no blowouts like the stock ones)

Lunsford Ti Hinge Pins: $21.79 (These won't bend like the stock screw-pins)

Trinity Dual-Stage Springs: $13.60x2 (A little stiff, might need to tune them a bit, stock springs also included)

Pro-Line Bumpers: $9.99 (Discontinued and hard to find)

HPI Super Mudder Tires: $26.99x2 (These tires are AWESOME)

RRP Pinions: $3.09 each (a few included, also the stock 18T Traxxas ones included)

GorillaMaxx battery straps: $14.00

Traxxas Differential Spool (NIP): $10.99

Lunsford Titanium Fat-Boy Screws for the motors (NIP): $7.99

HPI Rubicon Body: $20 + Paint. (It's a little rough now, bu

Yeah, from the list of parts it sounds like an e-maxx.

If you want to use the lipos you have I'd recommend a 6s setup. Maybe an MGM or Quark 125 (some people's quarks haven't worked properly on 6s, but mine works normally), and a neu 1515 1.5y (1500kv). Gear that for ~40mph for normal driving, and temps and runtime should be pretty good.
I wouldn't use any of the lightened traxxas shafts with brushless, they're not as strong as standard. Diffs will also need upgrading with that setup.

Yes it is an E-maxx. Sorry I left that out. I would like to wire the lipos in parrallel if possible. Are the RRP maximizer diffs not up to the strain of the brushless?

3s setups aren't that common so I don't really know what to recommend. How fast do you want to go?
I must have forgotten about the diff cups when I posted. The diffs should last ok depending on how powerful your setup is, but they will still wear out after a while.

Then you want series wiring. Series adds voltage, parallel adds capacity.

In that case, if money is not an issue, I'd recommend an MGM16024 and a Neu 1515 motor of proper kv (the 1700kv one would be fine). Should provide speeds over 45mph quite easily (probably more like 50+) and should be reliable and cool-running.

BL Revo: CF G2R, LMT1940/7, 6S FP 30C Lipos, MMM, Hitec 5955TG
CRT .5: 7075 Ext Chassis, LMT1930/7, FP 25C 3S Lipos, MM

The MGM 24160 is definately a nice ESC, why not just run 8S, and a 12XL or higher quality motor(LMT 1960/9 orNeu 1527/1Y?... that would be a very very nice setup...

I have looked on this site for the suggested esc's and dont see them. Is there another source for the speed controls?

MGM 16024
If you don't want to spend an extra $100, and don't want to use more than 6s the MGM 16018 should be enough.
There's also a higher amp version MGM 22418
I don't know when they'll be back in stock.
