Losi clear body for painting. Do they not come with - 02.14.2008, 08:30 AM

Not sure where to post this but seems to be some Losi8 owners here.

Do the Losi clear bodies NOT come with the protective film on the outside? I just got done painting the new Mega Bug body and was ready for my favorite part. Taking the outer film off and seeing the shine. I can't find any film to take off on this one. This is the first Losi body I have painted. I haven't been in the hobby long but I 've painted over 10 bodies and this will be the first that didn't have the film. To make matters worse I used the outside to test a couple different color schemes. Removing the paint will be easier then the sharpie I used to outline areas and write colors on with. Not to mention the overspray I never worried about before. Anyone know what will remove a sharpie permenant black ink from lexan easily? I cannot find in the advertisement for thier bodies anything about having or not having the film on the outside.

Thanks.

I used to work in new product development for the company that makes Sharpie. Here is the easiest way to remove the Sharpie from a smooth, non-porous surface. Trace over the area that you used the Sharpie on with a dry erase white board marker. Let it dry (15 seconds or so is all it really takes) and then wipe the Sharpie off like it was a dry erase marker. Its that easy. Works great on Lexan bodies.

I haven't done a Losi body in a long time, but there are many bodies out there that don't come with the overspray. Its something you need to pay attention to when painting your body from the start. I actually find it more difficult to remove the overspray if you aren't careful.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

A good solvent, zippo lighter fluid or nitro fuel removes sharpie as well but that's a cool trick for the dry erase marker. I am going to toss a couple in my detail box and try it out on some of the work trucks I clean for giggles.

I should of checked the thread before I went to scrubbing. That dry erase trick sounds easier. I used some goo gone and real hot water on it. Will have to remember the dry eraser trick. It turned out pretty well here's a shot with my marking and test paints then a finished product. I e-mailed losi and they replied that it comes with film on the outside. The one I got sure didn't. I'll be checking any future bodies prior to painting.

Thanks again.

Great looking body. Simple design, but goes on the truck great!

Thanks. The stipes and fender outline is done with the changing color paint. Goes from an emerald green to a blue similar to the rims. Just depends on your angle and and the light. The dark green in the first pic. Here's some tht show the stripes with the different changes it goes through.

wow, that came out looking great, even after all the drama with the protective film. I never was partial to bug bodies, but I would rock that.

There's two sides to every schwartz, he got the up side and I got the down side.
