CRT.5 motor mount problem

CRT.5 motor mount problem - 02.25.2008, 01:49 AM

Howdy, just received my CRT.5 today, and upon installing the mount I ran into a few problems.

1) The hole where the brake cam inserts was too small on the mount (by some incredibly small fraction of a mm) - no biggie, hit it with a 3mm drill bit and its a perfect fit now.

2) in the stock mount, there are little cut outs in the mount for the bearing flanges on the brake cams, the RCM mount seems to be missing these, and the cam bearing doesnt fit in place without them. Before I take a file to my newly aquired piece of shiny goodness with a file, just wanted to check that this was infact an oversight in the manufacture of the RCM mount and not me being stupid and doing it wrong...



Now, is it just my mount is a one off that's like this? Or does everyone have to mod their RCM mounts to fit properly?

Mech brakes on a crt.5?

You must be one of the few that will do that. What motor / esc / batt combo will you run?

Lol didnt even think about that... I'm running a Feigao 9L with a Mod1 Mamba Max and (at the moment) 3s 4000mah 20C packs I made myself... looks like they will be a little big to put right on the chassis, so I'll either make up a mount to let them hang slightly off a bit, or get some smaller packs... or get a bigger chassis lol (running stock pro chassis at the moment).

Will the CD affect the braking at all if I go esc braking...? cant imagine it would...

Come to think of it I don't think a brake servo will fit, so motor braking it is! dont think the L will get too hot :P

You will not have any issues with motor braking. Just up the center diff fluid weight, if your rear tires unload too much on hard braking.

The mm should not have any issues with the 9l, I run the same combo in a very heavy tube frame buggy, and it is geared for 45mph. No heat issue, just traction (a lack of it!).

Make sure you have some airflow over the esc and motor and have a look at the heatsink of the mm. Some are not help on the the fets properly, I pulled one off and re-attached it with thermal epoxy on each fet (just a little). Should help with hot spots.

Sweet.. Still seems strange that the holes are there for mounting the brake disk/pads if you cant get the brake cam on....

My CRT.5 is running pretty much that same EXACT setup, except with a regular MM, and a CCBEC. It's geared with an 18t pinion, and the extended chassis I made for it is the same length as the RCM chassis. The 9L is a couple years old, and does just fine. The hottest I've ever gotten it is maybe 150 deg. The MM gets to about that temperature as well (no fan). Mine runs all truck tires (HPI Yokohoma Geolandars for the street, Holeshots for the track).

Must be an oversight by mike, or you are using the plastic upper bulk/brake cam mount, and he had the carbon fiber one, or vice versa.
