Reversing rotation of an HV Maxx? - 03.22.2008, 03:05 PM

Hey,

Is it possible to reverse the direction of an HV Maxx?

This if for a custom built truck. I am finished and trying to test run it and, when building the drive train, I never considered the motor direction because I am so used to sensorless systems.

Any thoughts?

Matt

Apparently you do not know about the HV Maxx. It is a sensored motor/ESC. You cannot just reverse two wires. The sensors will not allow the reverse rotation.

i know its a sensored, and it is possuble to reverse it , the sensor only reads ticks on a wheel for rpm.. anyways if it was, you wouldnt have reverse

You could flip the diffs, but you may need to take the whole vehicle apart to do so.

Brushless boy,

I do not mean to be rude, but you do not know what you are talking about. The reason it has reverse is in the software as well as wiring.

It is not a step system it is a true position sensing system. If two wires are reversed, it just hums. I began experimenting with the sensor wires and it will reverse, but very unreliably (sometimes it wants to go forward).

So, I want advice from someone who has actually done it if it is possible.

I have a Neu 1512 I can use with either a Com Pro or a Mamba ESC. But, this truck is used for low speed crawling as well as bashing. Sensored systems are more accurate at very low RPM.

Anyway, I went back to stock wiring and have been running it with the funky delayed setup that the HV Maxx uses in reverse and the truck runs well. So, I may go ahead and use my Neu and Com Pro so I can drive it. Plus, that motor/ ESC has alot more power than this HV Maxx does.

I would still love to reverse this, though.

Oh, I cannot flip the diffs in this truck. It uses TXT axles.

Hey Matt, From what I have read you can't reverse the motor. Now you may be able to remove the sensor assembly and flip it over and then swap 2 of the main wires, but that is just speculation by me. I am also guessing that you cannot flip the axles over? It is kind of annoying that the software does not have a feature that wil let you reverse the motor's rotation. Novak should have built that in, or offer some sort of software fix.

Maybe you could program the esc backwards like instead of going to full throttle first go to full brake, then full throttle, then neutral. It's worth a try.

Jeff, not a bad idea! Wow, thinking outside the box. I will try that.

I went ahead and installed my Neu with the Mamba ESC. This thing freaking rips! Jeeze, it is crazy for a straight axle truck. :D

I will start a thread on the truck soon (maybe tomorrow). I am burned out working on it. I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 to 400 hours in this thing.

Anyway, I must say, that stupid HV Maxx sucks. The ESC runs hot, the motor runs hot, the wires get hot all without a huge amount of power. The Neu with the Mamba ESC runs smooth, quiet, cool, and has crazy power.

The HV Maxx must have terrible efficiency.
