Questions bore reducers, lipos, and motor mount, e-revo - 04.24.2008, 04:52 PM

Hello i just had some questions that i cant find in a direct format, i have spent more hours on this site than i like to admit

this is all for a conversion e-revo, and of course i will be getting the mmm
i will at first use my hv6.5 though(i want to wait for the esc motor combo on the mmm). my question is when using the bore reducer from this site, will i have a much higher chance of snapping the shaft on the motor (hv6.5)?

for lipos 5s1p or 5s2p the 5s1p is a 5000 mah and the 5s2p also totals 5000mah is one "better." I do understand the series and parallel concepts of increasing voltage(s) or capacity(p)

next with the rc-monster vs the tekno motor mount. is one for using the clutch bell instead of spur (tekno) and the other is for a direct spur (Rc-monster)? i think i have it right or can one do both. and in the same breath what is the difference in action of either.

thanks for your time
j

5s1p or 5s2p is going to depend on the cells used. Go with whichever one has the higher discharge rating. Other than that, there is no way to tell which is going to be better. The 1p pack should have slightly lower internal resistance, and fewer points of failure.

You're right on the mounts. The tekno uses the clutchbell. Without it, the motor is too far back from the spur to mesh. The RCM mount is for direct mesh between pinion and spur. The electri clutch thing from Tekno uses the nitro clutch, which will give you more slip when pegging the throttle from a stop. IMO, that is what the slipper is for ;).

As for the HV 6.5, I'll let someone else chime in. I personally don't think that is well suited for an e-revo, but we'll see what someone else has to say. Good luck with your build, and welcome to the forums!!!

With the 6.5 on 5s lipo you may have issues. Kv is around 3000 for the 6.5, so with 18.5v input it will be spinning around 55,500rpm. It may get hot, depends on gearing.

Will you leave the 2 speed and mech brakes? If so then I would suggest 11/40 gearing. The tekno mount will not allow that low gearing, so you will have to go with the rcm mount. Better chioce IMO.

The hv motor will not like the added load of locking the tranny in second.

ok thanks one thing i i forgot to mention is when i use the hv 6.5 it will have 14 gp3300 cells
the lipo question was more for when i get the MMM setup. true rc is getting the 5s1p 5000 mah packs back in stock may 1st, seems like a good deal ive been happy with my mid grade gp's so i figure mid grade lipos would be fine too.

ok so there is no real benefit to running a clutch (tekno mount) seems like more parts to mess up to me. so i should go with the rcm motor mount then?

i would like to keep 2 speed w/ mech brake.

question is when i do the FOC conversion will i be able to have 2 speed mech brake and reverse?

im just glad the mmm is actually coming out i was trying to decide between the hv 6.5 and waiting for the MMM 2 years ago. im glad i made a decision but still wish i had gone the MM feiago route, but brushless is overwhelming when you start.

thanks for quick responses this forum is the best i have found for brushless info

Quick reply lets you post directly from the input field at the bottom of the page, while a regular posting takes you to another page first. You have more options there, but have to wait for the page to load...

It is said the clutch helps prevent any cogging by letting the motor spool up a little before it engages. Motor startup is where the cogging occurs usually, so it may help if you are using gearing that is troublesome for the motor/ESC combination you are using. The Tekno clutch also provides a means to use stock clutchbell options. Probably acts sorta like a slipper to some degree at low rpms in systems where a traditional slipper setup is not available.

If keeping the two speed tranny, you cannot retain reverse without the FOC conversion.

Do you mean keep mech reverse? The whole point of the FOC is to get rid of mech reverse. On the other hand, if you mean motor reverse, you have to choose between it and the two speed - cant have both :)

ok that explains everything better so when i use the hv 6.5 for a month or 2 i should use 2 speed and mech reverse. and with the mmm foc locked into second and motor reverse does this sound correct.
will the mmm have cogging problems i though it was supposed to eliminate them.

is there any other brushless application that also uses the clutch besides this?

you will probubly will not want to retain 1st gear due to the higher torque levels from a BL motor unless you REALLY enjoy pulling wheelies and catwalks

is first gear on a 3.3 revo lower than on a 2.5 emaxx? i like having a slower gear for my rock crawling ( well fake rock crawling i know its not a true rock crawler).
i have found at least with my e-maxx w/hv 6.5 2nd gear wheelies easier as it seems to have the torque necessary.

thanks
