Is It Possible? (Novak Mutation) - 04.24.2008, 10:42 PM

I was wondering if it was possible to convert a novak sensored motor into sensorless by removing things such as the board. It looks as if it has very similar build points as the neu's. It would be neat if this was possible because not only would it be sensorless it would cogg a ton less making it more enjoyable to drive.

Just don't use the sensor wires. A sensorless esc won't know the sensor is in the motor. I have an early neo one in my blizzard with a castle sidewinder. It runs nice and smooth too.

you can use a sensored motor with a sensorless system, you just don't use the sensor wires...

You can't however use (or make sensorless) the novak esc without the sensor.

I'd not put anything novak on the same dimension as Neu. Two whole different worlds.

If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

I am having issues with my novak hv working with a mm at the moment. I did not have any issue with a plett working with the mm, so I am not sure yet if the novak is a good sensorless motor.

I don't have any video of it with the brushless setup. We haven't had any snow for awhile either. Maybe this weekend I'll run it in the dirt and get a video.

cool! I've seen a couple blizzard vids. How do you like it? How durable is it? Thanks.

I know you can run a sensorless ESC with a sensored motor but I want to know how to modify a novak to run as smoothly as possible in sensorless mode w/o tampering with ESC settings. Theirs got to be a way...

ok are you talking about running a novak motor on a sensorless esc? or trying to run a novak esc sensorless?

Im talking about converting a novak brushless motor such as the Velocity/HV-maxx series into a sensorless motor by modding its internals.

There's no point. Sure, you can remove the sensor leads and probably even the internals, but it would be exactly the same as running without the sensor lead connected. Too much work for nothing.

And I'm going to say no, running a sensored motor without the sensoring will not result in less cogging, or a smoother running motor.

I really want to try this to see how it turns out. Some of you may doubt this project will work but we'll see...

its not that it wont work.. its that it kinda pointless... there is no advantage to running a modded NOVAK sensored motor like 83 says, just disconnect the sensor wire and you get the same efect

I had my HV4.5 running with a MGM 8012 and all I did is bundle up the sensor wire and zip tie it. Now that I'm using my HW 120A, I just hooked up the sensor to it. You might need the sensor and it is just easier to zip tie it.
