bead-loc rim and tire combo - 09.04.2005, 11:52 AM

I'm very interested in the bead-loc glueless. From checking around, is the Proline 40 Commando the only option? I couldn't really tell from the information on the rim what if any restrictions there are for tires. Proline's site showed Big Joe 40s and MOAB 40s in combination with the bead-loc. Checking the details of both tires, I saw nothing specific to bead-loc. Would I be able to run BowTie 40s with the Commando rims? Also, of the Dace Mfg 23mm and Proline's 23mm adapters, which is better? Can you get the Commando rims Mike?

I prefer the Dace 23mm , they offer an extra flange on the inside peice that captures / clamps the rim between the two peices. also they use a 22mm wrench , easier to find.

With respect to bead lock wheels AJS offers them as well. All of the beadlocks I have read about seem to add alot of unsprung weight.

Those AJS beadlocks are no 40 series papa,

Mike can get you anything from proline. you can use the bowties with the proline beadlocks

I too would recommend the Dace adaptors, that 22mm nut is the reason, plus they are made from 7075 aluminum.. Proline doesn't mentions what theirs are made of, so i'm pretty sure that it ain't 7075..

Here, this guy has got them on his car!

I must of missed the 40 series requirement. There are a few options in standard size beadlocks here is another, maxximizer . I think the Proline Commando's are great lookin' wheels. Bling Bling.

Yep, Prolines look awesome especially on a crawler/mudder/basher type truck, rather than a racer.

I can get any of the adapters or beadlock rims. The other nice thing about the Dace adapters is the fact that they fit over the 14mm hex, so they work on anything with this hex size. The prolines replace the hex(so, they won't work on certain vehicles, like the HB LSP, as the actual axle is a different size).
All beadlock rims add weight. Also, with a lot of power, they can let go of the tires sometimes as well(in other words, I wouldn't use them myself-I have a set of black maximizer beadlocks with the standard and wide offset adapters sitting around unused for 2 years!). To each his own, though. If you want them, I can get them. I don't know if the newer proline beadlocks hold the tires any better, but I am sure they add weight.

they do add a little weight. I found one trick to them. Take a small drill and drill the hole for the screws all the way threw. It flakes chrome off and jams up in bottom of screw hole. I have not had any problems with coming out. The tires have swelled and shook but not came out. The newer proline tires have a rounded innner edge on bead. If you get another type of tire you just have to trim them. It has instructions on this in the rims. I have ran both the dace and proline. The proline are sitting the a box. The dace seem to hold better. The proline beadlocs do add weight but it is not as much as you may think. I myself love them. I just wish they had blue rings. :)

ON them rims you have mike. My brother had the same problem. What I have seen the proline does it a little different.

Peace!

well, I had a credit elsewhere that I burned up for two sets of tires and the commando rims. Sorry Mike. Mike, can you get me another set (two pair silver rings) of the rims? I was going to switch between the different tires depending on what I was doing, but my goodness, over 100 screws to change tires..................I am not a patient person, and I'll buy another set rather than switch tires on the same rims. I also need turnbuckle rod ends.

CHC, I like the idea of drilling the holes deeper. After removing the two screws that are installed to hold the rings for packaging showed the holes had stripped a little bit. No problems with cracking or the like under torque?

Do the Dace adapters work with 8mm UE axles?

Yes the dace works great with 8mm ue cvd. I like them a little better than the proline 23mm.
If you drill them through them seem to hold better. I stripped a couple myself putting them together until i drill them out. Go figure. It will put a work out on you to. I got the dewalt out and put a bit in that. It was a lot faster. :)
