Couldn't other wise CC wouldn't send out replacement fans as the case has to be opened to change the fan.

Integy make a 30x30x6.5mm 7 Fin Cooling Fan 7.2V (Max8.4V) which is $5 cheaper than the Novak one but currently not in stock @ Tower

Just curious? What are you doing with the MMM? I think they might be OK if you are just running it around the street or in the park or something. But any kind of rough handeling and they are toast. Mine ran fine all thru set up and some testing at the local park, but the minute I put it on the track it was a gonner.

Rough handling? More like abuse. Last time I took out my Savage (with MMM) I snapped 1 heavy-duty dogbone, bent another and cracked the shock cap on one of my Aftershock shocks. If it wasn't for the shock cap I would've kept on jumping. 10-12ft jumps...and unlike a cat I don't always land on all fours!

The fan has stopped twice though. 1st time I switched the MMM off then on and the fan restarted. 2nd time a blade of grass blocked it. Removed grass and it worked fine. Also I run in very loose dirt/gravel.

No mods to the Monster. I was running an 8XL, now a 1515/1.5d, both on 4s. I'll probably be running a 1515/1y on 6s this weekend.

I don't hate fans....unless they are used where they don't belong. I use fans in my PC (although I'd like to get rid of these). I use fans to keep me cool. If the fans fail in either of these, I can easily tell right away. But neither of these are subjected to the very harsh conditions (vibration, impacts, debris) these vehicles are subjected to.

I have always been of the opinion that a properly selected and geared system should never see high temps. None of my setups use fans (even my two Quarks) and I haven't seen temps over 130*F. The only exception is my CRT.5 but that's because the 4600 motor is simply too small for the truck (I get temps around 150*F, but that's too high).

Also, if you are relying on a fan to keep your system operational, then that is just a recipe for disaster considering that it is sometimes difficult to know when a fan fails until it is too late.

Usually, mechanical components break first, and fans are no exception.

Besides, you already have a source of flowing air because the vehicle is MOVING (usually at a decent speed). A little ESC mounting fore-thought and maybe a little extra heatsinking is just as good as a fan without the hassle and risk.

yeah you sure should not 'depend' on the fan. however, everthing else equal an additional fan will help to keep the components even cooler. if the fans are correctly mounted they won't fail easily. those little fences that are available help a lot for the long living of those little fans.

I don't know for this particular Integy fan... I had some Integy fans in the past and compared with Novak’s fan with the same size, the Novak was by far more efficient.

As far as I'm concerned, we should all be getting free fans from CC for at least a year if not longer. If they are $15 a pop I'll have to spend $15-30 a week on fans to keep one in it and running. Assuming 1 fan per race day (optomistic at this point) I will have gone thru the cost of the controller in 11 weeks.

What is the non-warrantee repair cost for the MMM? Anyone know. I'm just trying run the economics on this. If its say $75 for the repair (MM is $50) I can see it being cheaper to just run without a fan and hope it lasts 5 weeks in between melt downs.

Anyone thought of sending one to GriffinRu to let him work his magic. If he can " modify " the mmm as well as he has the mm, for a small price, you should have a bulett proof controller.....I have a brand new one in the box and am considering letting him experiment on mine.....

He chimed in not to long ago and was already tinkering with one. I think he mentioned something about putting the brains and built in BEC from a MMM onto the power board of a MM (with his mods of course) and creating a smaller form factor controller that would handle 4s or possibley even 5s. Perfect for a 1/8 buggy. I'm sure he is looking at what else he can do with it, but at that point he was only just starting to explore from what it sounded like. I'm sure he will come back and post some ideas once he gets to spend a little time on it.

ok just got back from bashing and my fan just stopped working. i was about 30 mins in and, took a 5 min break and plugged the batteries back in , turned the esc on..few secs later i hear a slight psh..fan no workie. mmm still works phew. so after i call CC to get the replacement, how hard is it to install the new one? any soldering have to be done? or do i send the esc back to them. CC is closed now so ill have to get some answers here for now.
