the old standard...

Mamba Max w/ubec
Neu 1512 1.5y (1900kv)
Maxamps 4s 8000mah (pair of 2s packs)
15/44

I did manage to get the MM hot this time. It's a bit heavier setup and I had no cooling hole in the body, no fans, no extra caps... and I was pushing it pretty hard. I got about 10 minutes in and it cut out a couple times for like 5 seconds.

I pulled it off so I didn't have to have the marshalls keep grabbing the car. I was up to 4th place at the time...

It only temped at 185-190 on the heatsink... it's been much hotter before without thermalling so I'm still not convinced that's what was going on. But that's the most likely thing. I think the motor was in the 160s. Normally the esc also runs about that.

One another note.. a friend ran my 8ight and had a blast. No issues... had a 1509 (1820kv) and MM with caps and a kokam 4s 4800. Another buddy was running his 8ight with MM and 1509 (2300kv?) on 4s and 12/46 and his temps were very good, but he was somehow using more battery than my 8ight. (@400mah more in a 6 min run)

If I had caps or better cooling for my MM.... I likely would have finished 3rd.

Seems like a fairly small track for 1/8. Not alot of jumps either. I can see how a 1509 would work well there. Is this your normal home track?

Yes... it's a small track. Normally there are more jumps, but this layout didn't get much because the dirt was used up trying to level a couple of areas that were always puddling etc.

I think more dirt will be coming for the rebuild in a few weeks, so we can get some more airtime. It's also not easy to find space for big jumps on such a small track.

A smaller track can be tough on electrics too, with a lot of braking and hard accleration. Big flowing tracks carry more speed everywhere, and have a lot more WOT time... but may not have as much braking and accel off the corners. I haven't done enough running on different tracks with the same setup to compare really.

The other tracks around here are big, but I haven't been to them much with the electric car.

btw, I will let you know if I ever get up to Joliet....

Yea, let me know if yuo get out there. I'll meet you if I can. I'd love to see the Caaster in real life. Bring the 1512 though. The outdoor track there is a workout for the 1509's. Big, fast and you'll want the extra snap to clear some of the big jumps.

You sure it was the ESC? I had a very similar thing happen with my Hyper8 and it turned out to be the receiver rebooting because of the cheap UBEC I was running. Switched to a CC BEC and the problem went away.

BTW, can the CD take a Kyosho 46T spur? Might help temps a bit.

I did think it was the the UBEC dropping voltage and resetting the rx (specktrum)....

but I'm pretty sure that I had steering.

BUT.......... it could have been that the rx kicked off.... and I noticed the steering working while the MM was rebooting, or trying to reboot once I left the throttle alone long enough.

Hmmm.....

Should be @ 47mm x 138-140mm just like an Emaxx tray. But I've yet to see the production ones. Mine are homemade jobbies.

Any ROAR approved 1/10 type batteries should fit. TrueRC 50mm cells and the long Enerland cells won't work.

I'm going to try to get some special wide trays made to fit TrueRc and A123 packs.
