I went to the park today, and I did this:
Basically, about 10 minutes into the first (and only) run, I was trying to max out the throttle, which was probably a bad idea. As I gently applied more throttle, I maxed out the motor rpms, and thought the truck would stay on all 4 wheels... or so I thought. Just as the truck went past infront of me, the front end suddenly lifted, and before I could hit the brakes, it was cartwheeling sideways and landed on its wheels, just in the edge of a bush. Very lucky and awesome I thought, but as I hit the throttle to bring it back to me, it became apparent one of the rear wheels had lost its turnbuckle, so I went and picked up the truck- right rear turnbuckle was completely missing. Luckily as I searched for it, a young boy & girl who had been watching were also looking for it, and the little girl came running over holding the turnbuckle, and said "is this what you're looking for?". Bless, not all little kids are devil spawn afterall. I managed to get the turnbuckle refitted okay, but since one end was ripped apart, I had to improvise and remount it to the bulk using a spare wheel nut to clamp it in place- worked great.
After fixing that mess, I then proceeded to do a few more speed runs, but being gentler on the throttle this time. After about 5-10 minutes, I saw the truck starting to loose power and speed, so I bought it in to me... and smoke was coming from the motor... carp. I checked it with my temp gun, and it said 358*f! = toasted. The MMM was at about 130*f, and the batts at about 120*f- the 10g wires were also very warm, so that motor was sucking some serious amps as it died. I cooled the motor down for about 20 minutes, but upon puttig in some fresh batteries and arming the MMM, all I got was horrible cogging and stuttering; the rotor is de-magnetized, and I wouldnt be suprized if the varnish is melted on the windings too. The black line on the motor is where the lvc harness for my lipos had melted to it, thankfully it wasnt in use as I was using the newest A123 packs I bought recently (thankyou Kulangflow, again).
Now to go stock up on rod ends, and a new 'cheap' motor to hold me over until the 70mm Medusas arrive...
