Best option to go faster.... - 08.05.2008, 09:55 PM

Should I try a new motor, or stick with my current motor and go with a higher cell count battery.

I currently run a Neu 1512 2.5d, I went with this motor to get good run times... and I do, probably over 30 minutes... I bought 3 batteries thinking I would need them ,and only use 1. Runtimes are not an issue.

I would like to go faster. Different motor? or 6 cells?

How hot are the motor/esc/batteries getting? You could always gear up.

30mins on a 1512 2.5D? You could gear up for sure. Here's my setup:

-SH buggy, with 38/11 diffs
-same motor as you, finned can
-geared 18/44
-4s 4800mah 20C Lipo
-about 45mph top speed and ~15mins runtime

On a real hot day it tested at 118 for the motor and esc, and about 110 for the battery.

I was thinking it felt a bit weak in the midrange,.. Like a large grass jump its not pulling, its slowing down. So I think gearing up would make that worse.

I think my gearing is 17 pinion, 54 spur. STD revo tranny locked in second.
Flightpower 30C, 4500mah
Center diff.

i know my top speed is no where near 45, I would guess 25...

Yeah, definitely gear up. That motor is much more capable... My motor typically comes off at about 160 deg. depending where I'm driving.

Just Revo 2.5 conversion,
locked into 2nd, Std transmission gears.
Revo center diff.
Motor brake
Single steering servo

Quark 125b
Neu 1512 2.5d
17/54 gearing
Flightpower 4500, 30c

That should be the basics.

I will order a larger 19 tooth pinion. Should I pickup one more? If so what size?
Thanks.

since the biggest spur for a Revo is a 40 tooth ..are you using a different brands spur?...and the 1512 might have more problems gearing up not as much torque as the 1515...and what voltage battery are you running?

Its an Associated Nitro TC3 spur.

the voltage is 14v.

Like previously mentioned it does seem a bit weak when there is more load than just a flat dirt surface.

if it already feels weak, and if its in your budget, try to get a motor with more torque this will enable you to gear up for more speed, the Revo is a bit on the heavy side..I feel the 1512 series is more suited for buggies

BL motors can sometimes feel "flat" when there isn't enough of a load placed on them. Ever heard someone use the expression "it woke up" when referring to a BL motor and increasing the pinion gear size? Well if not, it's happened.
