9918 Esc

hi, where's the red jumper on the ESC that i have to remove to program it? do i have to unwrap the whole thing? i'm a beginner and i don't wanna do unnecessary things to kill this expensive piece. if possible could someone point me to an illustration?

It's on the side of the input wires,

follow the red wire that goes into the esc, perhaps you allready see a small piece of it.

just use sharp knife to remove the shrink, it's there!

it's on the other side from the heatsink (sink, not shrink.. ) :p

thanks for that info, also does having reverse affect the forward speed? is that why some people have forward only so they can have faster speed?

No, that has got nothing to do with it.

you can enable reverse if you want it to go reverse. it won't affect the speed or what so ever.

In some races you are not allowed to drive backwards (i thought, i'm no racer) and with a mechanical brake, also controlled with the throttle/brake channel, you don't want the truck to go in reverse when the brakes are fully applied.

also is it true that having shorter wires is better? i mean these wires in rc cars are already short. having good connection(soldered) is the only thing that matter right?
also i believe i got 8L motor in installed(can't see the sticker) but i got a 7XL spare motor that for some reason is bigger? which motor is better?

Dan's Stockade is a pretty big truck, isn't it? The 7xl is larger because it is an "xl" ("L"= long, "XL" = extra long). The "sxl" will have more torque and will more easily pull a heavy truck around. The 7xl will need taller gearing to achieve the same speed as the 8L also. Either motor will work quite well on 12 cells. For more cells, the 7xl will be the better choice.

Having short wires does help a little, but it is more important to have good connections.

BK (the producer of your controller) also advices wires as short as possible. but like metalman says, the quality of the contacts is essential as well.
