7700kv Mamba motor too much for a crt .5? - 09.14.2008, 09:51 PM

Id like to convert my crt .5 for winter racing and am going to try to use what i got already to do it. Is a 7700kv mamba motor on 2s too hot?

It seems the general concensus for the CC motors is to use the 4600 in the CRT.5. But if your truck is extended and is running 2.2 truck tires you will probably want to consider a larger motor.

A MM 7700 is best in lightweight on road cars. Heavy off-roaders will kill it, your drive train and your batteries.

Thanks for the build link Chip. Looks good! Love the body.

It seems like most are running 3s on their Crts. Anyone run one on 2s with a higher KV motor? The Medusa 4800kv 50mm maybe?

The 7700KV will be running at 56980rpm. That is alot (even though Castle say it can run up to 60000rpm). Have you looked into the Traxxas VXL motor of the Feigao motors. Be a much better and safer choice

I'm running that motor on 2s and love it! Plenty of power and speed. I'm usung a MA 6Ah pack and getting 20minutes of high speed runs without a problem. If you want to try running 2s in a crt.5 this is the motor to go with! If you want to run 3s I would say the 3300kv(?) Medusa. For the little bit extra they cost I beleive they are far superior to any Feigao motor or the VXL motors. I was considering the 4600 CC motor when doing this build but was cautioned against it, would run hot no matter how I geared it I was told. Bought the Medusa and I'm very glad I did!

Even with the 4600 on 2s geared low, temps get too high for me (over 150*). Despite its small size, the CRT.5 is fairly heavy. And it's 4wd (greater load). A 3s setup on a ~3500 kv motor would be best IMO. Temps will be much better all the way around.

So far so good! The Medusa motor seems to be a good high quality motor. There seems to be more metal to it compared to the mamba. :) using the stock spur and a 14t pinion, the motor barely gets warm. The esc was getting a little warmer than i woulda liked, but i think a small fan will keep that in check. This thing is a riot!
