what cant get wet while cleaning nitro

i have jato 2.5r engine that is dirty as hell what parts cant get wet
how do you clean nitro engines on the outside how much stuff should i remove carb exhaust heat sink? thanks thanks for any help

Inside the motor can't get wet obviously. So, leave the gloplug in. Also, remove the airfilter and cover with a baggy or something. Of course it depends on what your definition of wet is: Are you planning to submerge it, spray it down with a hose, wipe it down with a wet rag, etc?

Other things to avoid wetting: servo, receiver; basically any electronics.

Once you get it all clean, you might want to dry it well and then wipe down the screws and any other items prone to rusting with WD40 to keep them from rusting.

i just want to know how far to take it, it's hard to seal a carb or carb hole that is left when u remove the carb hope that makes sense
will a little water inside the cylinder then wd40 shortly after make a diffrence i dont want to put water in there but if it happens does it ruin it? basically i want a shiny motor to sell but with working parts

Hmmm. Spraying it down with a hose would be the easiest thing. Maybe spray a little degreaser on the really bad parts to help loosen the nitro goo.

I don't think a little Dihydrogen Monoxide in the engine would be too bad as long as it is removed quickly.

I clean my engines down in Simple Green (how dilluted is up to you, straight up it's very powerful and quite expensive, but even 10:1 it'll cut through most nitro gunk) then hose them out really well with WD-40 to make sure the bearings don't rust. I think my bearings are stainless steel, but it's best not to take that chance. That Simple Green is a great cleaner, and if you put it on your tires and let it sit a little while it helps with traction as well.

brake parts cleaner in an aerosol can works pretty good for cleaning nitro gunk. you can aim it pretty well too to avoid what you don't want to get wet, but it hasn't seamed to effect servos. The stuff evaporates so quickly it doesn't get a chance to work its way in where it doesn't belong.
