Need help finding 17mm hexes to fit on crt.5!!! Integy (designed for traxxas)Dont fit - 09.27.2008, 05:37 PM

I got my brushless crt.5 chassis off ebay and it looks pretty sweet! It is the PERFECT size for me... I wanted as close to rustler size as possible, and this will do it (mikes extended chassis).

Anyway...my biggest concern was putting these adaptors on it:

They fit the rustler axles just fine, so I was hoping/assuming they would fit the crt.5

They slide over and bolt up just fine BUT there is play/slop in them. I figured out that the crt.5 axle diameter is just slightly smaller than the traxxas axles. I tried sliding the crt.5 hex over the rustler axle to confirm this and it sure does NOT fit!

So... the integy hubs have a little bit of play when fully tightened down. I was thinking I could solve some of the problem by putting axle washers on in between the hub and the adaptor. I have not found any in my parts box yet (limited time to work on this truck when im at home). Think this would help, as it will pull the adaptor in tighter against the hub?

I am really diasspointed as I have tons of 1/8 tires I run on the rustler and REALLY want to run them on the crt.5!

I only have a single set (of 4) adaptors in my possession, so I was going to buy an additional set to run all 4 of the smaller offset (3/4 inch) adaptors since the crt.5 has equal length a-arms. Cant bring myself to make my parts order (need to get a lot of stuff... including my mod 1 pinions/bore reducer so I can actually run this little beast).

If anyone knows if another truck (rs4 mt?) or other have a slightly smaller axle diameter than the traxxas trucks, those would probably work. I just want to make sure before dropping another 25-35 bucks on some adapters (like new eras).


Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!

But I won now because im sure the problem will be the same as yours. Guess I have to go back to 30's series rims/tires now. Sigh...

I wonder if I can just use the 8mm axle hubs a truggy uses. And then have Mike, or someone make me something like his bore reducer to fit in there. I cant see any problems with that, other then getting them made. And then use something like the RC8T hubs for the offset, then we can run 0 offset, and have perfect width. Maybe Mugen, since I know my buddy has some I could have, and get this figured out

Time to get the ideas flowing!

Proline 30 series are just too damn expensive! A full set is like 60 bucks..and I wanted to have at least one full set of dedicated streets and offroad (was thinking badlands and road rage) but im not about to spend 120 on two sets of damn rc tires/wheels!

I can get brand new 1/8 tires mounted on wheels off ebay for like 15 bucks a full set (was watching some badlands copy's and some slicks which would work perfect).

If we can make something happen, lets do it!

Alright, lets figure it out!

What kind of offset are you wanting to run on the rims? Zero right?

I can order some hubs (You want some also? I can get them alot cheaper then you can anywhere. PM Me if so)

And then we just need something to make up the dia difference. Im pretty sure the stock out put is 5mm (can you confirm this? I dont have calipers on hand) to 8mm. Would be cheap and simple enough to have Mike make us. And then bolt them up and go

I can get some Kyosho hubs, which are 12mm offset (or 1/2 in) So that would be plenty wide IMO, or we can do something like the RC8T ones, or some other brand, that has 3/4in off set, So we can have the car overall 1 in wider, or 1 1/2 wider. Either way works for me, Id probably pick the 3/4in ones my self, but what do you want?

We can do this for sure. Then once its all done, RCM Mike can sell them in his store, im sure were not the only ones that want this set up

This would be the equivalent to LPR's on the full size truggy, but here we use normal size truggy rims, with 2.2 truck tire stretched over them (and yes it looks, and works AWESOME! )

Ya all of my 1/8 rims are zero offset (the hubs connect to the furthest outside part of the wheel face).

I would be up for either the 3/4 or the 1/2... maybe 3/4, just for the extra width?

If you could shoot me a pm on the price of the hubs that would be cool. I am down at school (no access to rc stuff.. unfortunately its 150 miles away at home which sucks). So your saying stock stub axles are 5mm? Im not too sure...I was thinking thats rustler size? Maybe someone with a caliper and a crt.5 can help us out (maybe even mike?).

I am dying to bolt up my 1/8 tires onto this thing! I dont even have a desire to run it without them lol.

And I think doing it this way will be the cheapest too... cuz hubs are pretty cheap, and im sure mike can make some bore reducers relatively cheaply!

well I just found this searching for 30 series tires for crt .5...but this looks more interesting did you ever find the adaptors to do this?

Hopefully it works out! I am holding off on ordering my needed parts so I can hopefully order the extra widening parts and do the conversion.

I believe a few of you guys have seen my truck. Its not done, but closer..

Basically the widening mod, is using LS10 parts, they all fit no problems right into the normal stuff, but are probably .3 in at least wider per side (dont have the truck in front of me now...) And are ALOT stronger

You can run the upper arms if you wish, just need some lunsford or something turnbuckles that are longer, I just went away with them (no pics of that yet)







Still need my turnbuckles, drive shafts, bearings, and all that stuff. But once I figure that out, I know I think it was hpi nitro mt2 17mm adaptor hubs made by new era fit. So bam, and done!

Great idea BOR! In the past I bought the LS10 steering knuckles to try on the crt.5. They are a lot stronger looking, but the bearings were smaller than the crt.5 so I didn't get around to actually trying them. That's awesome that the LS10 arms fit straight on to the crt.5 hinge pins. They do look quite a bit stronger than the stock arms.

I just added a bunch of power to my RCM chassis crt.5 (MM, Medusa 3300, 3S) so I'd like to beef up the truck even more. Over the winter I'll have to keep my eye out for a used LS10.

Keep us up to date on how the truck comes along.

Ya keep us updated :) I am anxious to see the parts list to see what it will cost to do the whole conversion.

This truck should be very beefy and bulletproof after all is said and done!

Yea, the bearings are 5X10, not 5X11, duno why they did that

I had to dremel the front diff case a little bit because the arms have more material around the pin hole, But the rears fit absolutely no mods, and there is a good amount of play with the arms sliding, (not in a bad way) So you can mess with wheel base with shims, currently its shimmed so I have the most wheel base, but its something more to tune =)

For the conversion, maybe a 3rd of Mikes arms, But you cant beat machined alu arms, and hardened CVD's, but I dont have 200 or whatever they cost to blow on a set of arms... I wish I did, but I dont lol

The plastic parts, steering nuts and bearings should be about $30. Turnbuckles should be easy and cheap, $20 for steel. However the (4) CVDs are $60 forseeing the LS10 CVDs will work with the conversion. Have you found CVDs yet?
