4s vs 5s on Neu 1512 1.5D and 1515 1.5D? - 10.14.2008, 02:59 AM

Does anyone have any experience running a 5 cell LIPO on a 1512 or 1515 1.5D motor? i have both these motors running on a 4s 25c 5000mah battery and they perform great. but i am speed addict and i know these motors are capable of 60k rpm. currently the 1515 runs at about 38k rpm and the 1512 at just over 40k rpm i think. the 5 cell will take them up to the 50k-55k rpm range. i dont intend to use the 5 cell often, just for bashing and having fun with some speed but i dont want to waste $250 on a 5s battery if it wont add alot of speed over the 4s and if it will damage my motor. anyone tried this before? and with what results?

Yea its alot faster
after the MMM came out I figured I would push the MM s I have..
And I have been running 5 and 6s
in my 8T w/ 1512 1.5d and old(tired) Mamba Max
Nova cap, CC bec @7V... , 12v fan screams @22V
11-12t/46t plastic
temps are better
the center diff w/40K gets the hottest
And pulls wheelies @ straight away speed again!

The motor is rated for 60k but ,Imo, that is really only the bearing rating
And the kv rating for the motor are all No-load... Don't do that
the motor wires are rated for alot

With cation and for testing series a 2s and 3s for 5 and then a 4+2 for the 6s
Don't blame me if your results are different

I ran the 1512 1.5d on 5s and it pushed my rc8 to 69 mph. It probably could have gotten to 75 mph or so but the tires kept blowing off the rims and doing wheelies! I never held it at full throttle more than a second either.

The 1512 1.5d on 5s is a BEAST.

if you are doing a speed test go 5s for sure. if yu are racing go 5s and gear it down to the same top speed you had on 4s and yu will be even happier.

Fully charged 4s at 4.2 volt is 16.8v the specs on the 1512/1.5d is 3300kv thats 55,440 rpm at 5s its 69,000.I tried to run a 1515/1d on 4s 4100kv at 16.8volts thats 68,000 and instantly ignited a Quark Monster pro.I was bummed but not suprised.

this is great! cant wait to try it! this is all very helpful. i am maybe thinking just go with 5s on my 1515 1.5D. this would be ideal setup i think. it would put the motor at 50k rpm which would be great for racing IMO.

as for the 1512 1.5D the 5s just sounds insane. according to this ( http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...oducts_id=3076 ) it is right about 62k rpm. i am worried about pushing the limits of my $250 motor a bit but its a Neu right? it should be ok. haha. thanks for the tips guys.

so what if i gear down from a 13t pinion to a 12 tooth? how much speed will that take off the top? does it make it more torquey on the bottom?

i run the long shank pinion setups on my buggy and truggy. i am not a fan of the tekno elektri-clutch. so i have the 14t, 15t and the 17t pinions. what kind of affects would i see by changing out the pinion? how much top end increase would i see to go from the 13t to the 17t pinion? how about the 17t pinion on the 1512 1.5d with a 5s? would that break the 75mph mark? or would i just burn up my motor/esc?
