straight pinion or clutch - 10.19.2008, 06:52 PM

I got the tekno kit and was wondering what you you reccomend on the 8T the pinion or the clutch that comes with the chassis kit? Side question what shock oil, piston combo are you using? The electric is heavier than my nitro set-up.

New guy on the forum by the way. Sorry to ask a probably age old question. Thanks for the help.

Imo, the Tekno clutch is junk. I tried running one on my Revo conversion but found it to be unpredictable with the springs on; better without the springs but the shoes kept getting overheated and "glazed" rendering themselves useless. I'm running Tekno's long shank, double set screw pinions on my 8T now with Mike's mount and the diff turned back around to the stock direction; no more worries about the set screw on a single coming loose during a long main anymore. Like yours, my 4s conversions have all come in about a pound heavier than a comprable nitro. I'm using the heaviest springs(gray and purple iirc), stock pistons, and 50ft., 40rr on my fluids. Still experimenting with diff. fluids but so far I've liked 7,20,5 the best. Of coarse, different driving styles require different set ups. Hope that helps.......................

I love the clutch on my buggy, but it doesn't feel good to me racing with my 8ight truggy.. granted I have a crappy ESC as my MMM's are all 'out for repair'. I actually just completed my 8ight conversion as well, with that said I already ordered the long shank mounting plates and a long shank pinion to covert my tekno 8ight-t over to a shaft... I hope to have it to race w/ next weekend providing weather is good. I don't ever run w/ springs.. (on either) and have not had any issues but they do get wicked hot... but no real issues, I've run it up to 3hrs non-stop.

The only reason I got the tekno kit was for the clutch as the kit feels a LOT heavier than the losi electric conversion kit on the stock chasis. I must say I'm tempted to switch over and sell off the tekno parts... just to bring the weight down. We'll see.. as it would only cost me 75 for the losi kit as I have the stock pro chassis still and sell the v3 parts make a few bucks back and have a lighter truggy to boot.

That long shank pinion will work with the tekno kit right? Or... do I need to get the long shank mounting plates as well. Man, I already got tons of money in this thing.... SHEESHHHH!

No one ever said it was cheap to convert to brushless! I think it's more fun to run electric than nitro though!
