savage dual motor conversion - 11.13.2005, 06:01 AM

Hi guys,

I'm new here and currently have a FG monster beetle. The problem is is that it makes to much noise, when I want to ride in the neighbourhood. So I am thinking about rebuilding my Savage into a e-savage. (My picco p3 died on me...)

What do you guys think of this setup?

http://home.comcast.net/~milemarkers...Conversion.htm

Or do I need to get a bl setup?

Welcome to the Forum!
Another dutch E-Savy boy ;) I'm sure you'll meet Serum here, our Savage guru.

I would go for a BL setup. No need for dual BL, though. One motor will do.
A BL will give you more fun than dual brushies, I'm sure. And a suitable combo should last a lifetime.

welcome to the forum mack.
I agree with dafni. A single brushless motor will have more power and longer run time than the dual brushed. The right choice can have more than a wrong dual brushless.

Peace!

Thanks guys for your reactions.

I already did get in contact with Serum and he gave me some good tips. I'm still searching the internet looking for a complete kit, because I am not that good with electrics. This will be my first e car.

If you look at the specs below, the dual motor has more power theoreticaly. And according to the information on the site you don't have to lock your second gear. Don't know if this makes a difference or if that's a big problem, since I have no experience with this type of cars what so ever.

here are som specs.

Voltage Test Voltage Power Truck Weight Installed Power-to-Weight Ratio Internet Asking Price

Novak HV-Maxx Brushless System 14.4 - 16.8V 14.4V 375 Watts 8.3 lbs 45.2 watts/lb $279.99

Kershaw Designs Dual 820-Sized DeWalt Motor Conversion 14.4 - 16.8V 14.4V 594 Watts 9.9 lbs 60.0 watts/lb $199.99

Hi Mack!

Great to see you did some posting here!

Stay away from the brushed motors, 1 7XL will take those two motors with two fingers in his nose.. ;) and with a heavy savage, i would not advise you to get a HVmaxx either.

Mike can have you the stuff shipped directly from BK, that would make it much easier.

Take my advise on this;

get a 8XL (you can grow up to 20 cells with this bad boy) and a 9920 or a 12020 (warrior) the 9920 is good to go.

about the conversion kit;

in Germany i know that they sell a kit for 89 euro, it includes the following items;

-special driveshaft, locks in 1st speed and ables you to brake on the motor
-2 battery trays
-1 motorplate
-1 pinion (for a 5mm shaft)

All and all not a bad investment if you ask me.

Get a 9XL on 20 cells, it's a blast. If you have got deep pockets and you are willing to use the money, go lipo. It takes quite a lipo setup to get you the power needed. If you are in the race for a new charger (which i presume) you need to go for a good one. In germany, they are selling the Graupner ultra duo 30, able to charge up to 30 cells and 10S lipo.

Lipo's would take about a 6S setup to push your savage with 55mph+ around. And my advise is that you need about 3 sets of batteries to keep him going.. If this is your first start, please act normal, and start with a 16 or 18 cell setup. Having a fast monstertruck is one. Keeping it going straight, takes some time and a few crashes. Trust me, you don't want it to do wheelies at 40-45 mph. it might look cool, but i can guarantee you that that was probably the last you did see your savage do in one piece.. ;)

Start with something normal, the 9XL is a good motor though, and with 16 cells its a blast allready. With 18 it is pretty insane, and with 20 you will have the effect as i explained earlier.. :p

Like i said, i would take a 16 cell setup to start with. It is pretty mad allready, you need to learn how to tame a brushless beast first.. Thrust me on that one..

If you want all this much power and such. May I suggest a lehner 2240 or 2250. It will push your savage to 55+ mph and do wheelies on command. Promod has been 70mph with a 2240. It just takes more money.

Peace!
