4x4 rustler - 12.12.2008, 08:48 PM

I decided to make my rustler 4x4 instead of running a 60mm medusa with the tranny flipped. This is the set up I have come up with so far. It's a little longer than I would have liked but I dont really see anywhere I could remove length, while maintaining the simple steering set-up. Im still working on some modified c-hubs that Im hoping I can get to work, but we will see.

I would like to run dual sidewinders with dual velineon motors. I just like the added torque over the mamba motors, and I might beable to get a velineon through warranty becuase my original one has a cracked rotor. please tell me if you have some set-up motor/esc wise that you think would be better, and wouldnt break the bank. IDK if I can afford medusa right now, but I could probably go for some feiagos.

im pressuming about 1/9th scale and about 9lbs. I would like it to be lighter but the smallest lipos i have are 6400mah, and I have to run two of them becasue I dont think one can deal out enough for both motors.

I might give it a try because that would cut my weight by 18oz. thats alot of weight to drop, and It would also simplify my wiring a TON. when running dual esc you have to run this crazy wiring connector:

You might want to run the 2 batteries. I think you might have a huge voltage drop issue with 2 systems trying to pull from the same battery. Besides, I have never seen weight as an issue with BL power. It might just help you keep that thing glued to the ground!!!!

I dont think its going to be a lightweight at all. The sidewinder ESC are very light though and thats another reason I would like to run them over the velineons.

My batteries are rated at 96amps constant, and I believe that holds pretty true. In my CRT on 5s with a 2.5d they get about 15 degrees about ambient(more when its real cold).

defiance engineering? makes a c-hub to use rustler steering blocks with rear arms. $70 but they really simplify the build. I add a link if you're intersted.

yeah I sent him an email this morning and he said he makes them in very limited quantities. The price is also pretty steep but I may not have a choice. its going to be a last resort kind of thing.

running the front tranny facing in will make steering linkages difficult, but I sure like the way it looks. I'm gonna keep my eye on this one.

edit: maybe a servo out front and linkages out front like a crawler setup?.....

I did a 4x4 'Pede about 4 years ago, and made a how-to sort of thing:
http://www.4x4pede.freehomepage.com
It might help with some ideas for suspension and/or steering.

yeah thats actually the truck that made me want to build a 4x4 instead. I pretty much want mine to be like yours but with a single servo, and different esc's.

you said you were going to post the weight, but I never could find it. So how much did yours weigh? and how did it perform on one lipo? what lipo is it? also what steering setup are you running? the defiance racing hubs are nice, but $80 is really steep.
