Anyone have a Hacker C50 motor? -
12.19.2008, 03:32 PM
I have been looking at the Hacker motors for a while to try in my 1/8 conversions. I just want to try one because i have never seen one, everything online says they are as good or better than Neus, and i love German engineering. All i own is German cars. The germans know how to build real cars that kick ass so i figured that maybe these RC motors are incredible too.
Anyone have a Hacker in their setup? How is it? how does it compare to the Neus? How big are they? they look a little fatter than the Neus but shorter. they have very high efficiency ratings. anyway, seem like great motors but before i go with one over the new Castle 2200kv i want to hear some real world experience. Tekno says they are on par with the Neus also.

Regarding your comparison between the motors, you are comparing a Hacker L motor to a 1515 which is not a fair comparison. The Hacker L is going to be closer to the 1512, but might be shorter still. Another point I'd like to make - the C50 uses a rotor of smaller diameter than the Neu 15 series.
The current rating between the two motors could very well be arbitrary. For example, Hacker might rate their motor in terms of actual current consumption on a regular basis, where it won't fry if kept at that level for a longer time period. Neu might rate their motors' current specs based on the current level where they are most efficient, which doesn't necessarily mean they could operate at those currents for very long.

this is exactly why i dont understand all the motor ratings. there are too many variables for the data to be compared between different makes. thats why i am wondering if anyone actually has one

Ask lincpimp or lutach, they are the motor hogs .

lol. Go with the Neu. The Hackers are good, but too expensive. You won't regret getting the Neu, Tekno Neu or the Castle Neu.

yeah, i have a couple of Tekno Neus and a regular Neu and about to get the Castle Neu. i love them. they are great motors and blow away the medusas and novaks i have seen.
i just got an email back from Danny at Tekno and he says they are great but it sounds like they would be better for a buggy motor so i think i will hold off. they are not quite as powerful as the Neu but the build quality is superb. i want a big powerful truggy motor though. i would really like it if tekno or castle made the 1521 series. i want to run the 1521 in my truggy so i can get ThunderPower's 6600 mah lipo and have the weight be balanced still. imagine a 1521 1D 2900kv on 5s 6600mah!! that is going to be my setup at some point in the near future. its going to kick ass.

I have a 1521/1Y in my BPP truggy and it works very good with 6S and 5S. It's more motor then you need though. A 1515 for a truggy is plenty and I have a 1515/2Y in my MBX5T truggy running 8S lipos and it's just a torque monster.

I had 2 C50 10XL motors at one point. They are for sure good motors, but the Neu is better IMO. They just run a little cooler than the Hackers and are cheaper too. If you truly want German engineering in your motor find yourself a Lehner 1940 or 1950 motor. They are still the best motors around IMO. Downsides are, really hard to get on this side of the Atlantic, expensive, and service sucks if you need anything repaired or parts for the motor. I have a few of the Lehners and totally love them, but for the reasons above doubt I will ever purchase another one.

Ok, I have had all of the above... The c50 motors are very nicely made, but a bit big in diameter.
A hacker c50 L can motor is a great buggy motor, or in a corr style truck. Not really enough motor for a truggy or monster truck due to the heavier wheels/tires. Bit more powerful than a neu 1512, but very close.
The hacker c50 xl motors make alot of power. More powerful than a 1515, IMO. I run a 11xl on a lst with a MMM and 6s lipo and it has no lack of power.
Price is a concern, but used hacker c50 motors often go for less than a used neu... Plus the hackers are 2 pole and the neu is 4 pole, so a different "feel" to each. Neus are more torquey for the weight, but I just like how a 2 pole motor coasts of power.
If you are buying a new motor, buy the Neu, or if the castle neu will fit the bill go with that. The medusa motors are a great value too.
I have 1 c50 maxx, 4 c50 L cans and 2 c50 xl motors. I really like them, and paid about $650 for all of them...lightly used. I do have a 1521 that I plan to try out, and I think it will make more power than the c50 xl. So far neu and hacker c50 are my favorite motors. I will give the castle neu a try when they get cheaper/more abundant.

Tha Lehners are awesome. I wish I never got rid of any of mine. Be prepared for quite a bidding war and/or sticker shock when you finally do find one though.

great info from everyone. i have also heard of plettenburg motors. are they from germany also? how is there quality?
anyone have any links for the lehner motors? which models would be comparable or better than the 1521 Neus?
@lutach,
i knew you had some sick setups just from your posts here on RCM but would love to see those ones you mentioned. so is the difference noticable to run the 1521 over the 1515 in a truggy? or is there enough power already present in the 1515 that anything more you wont notice anyway?
i guess i am just kind of a speed/power addict. i run the 1515 1.5d on 5s in both my truggies currently and i love it. a great all around setup. low-end tourque, 60mph speeds, and very low temps. cant ask for much more.....except for the 1521 1d on 5s 6600 mah....he,he,he.....then after that it will be a 1527 in a truggy, God willing.

The 1521 in my opinion is just too much. The 1515 is plenty for any truggy. The Plettenbergs are very nice http://www.plettenberg-motoren.com/U.../brumo_ueb.htm and so are Lehners http://www.lehner-motoren.com/preise.php. Keep in mind that too much speed and power will keep you going to the LHS often to buy parts. A few of the boat guys compare a Neu 1521 to a Lehner 2240 and the Neu 1527 to a Lehner 2250. The price differance is what sets them apart though. You can also look at the Mega http://www.megamotorusa.com/Brushles...-ACn_22_SERIES. The ACn22/50 are awesome motors too, but the price is up there for that one. You can find good deals on the ACn22/45, but like all airplane motors, they are an open can design. If you're on a budget, go with the Medusa 70 or 80mm motors.

Ive never personaly owned a Plet, but have enver heard anyone say anything but good things about them.
Here is a link to the Lehner motors. The only place that i know of that carries them in the US is FineDesignRC (which is enough reason in my book to not bother with them also.)
Mike used to carry them back in the day, but they totally screwed him over at one point and the pain of dealing with them just wasnt worth it to him any more so he dropped their line along witht he BK controllers.
Here is a link to the Lehner website, I really wish they would get their distribution stuff fixed and dealt with so we could get these motors easier. They are so nice, I just hate that they are so difficult to deal with.
http://www.lehner-motoren.com/ms19.php
If you do Go with a Lehner a 1950 is more than enough motor for a truggy. And I agree with linc... A bigger motor isnt always better. At some point it is just more power that breeaks things. it doesnt make the truggy any faster, just harder to drive and much les reliable which is no fun at all.
I can't decide if its more fun
