...so how do the Kershaw units run? Dying to know...

..Dan is working on a slightly 'different' version for the E-Sav (non-Flux) too...

EDIT: Crap!!! Sorry, my bad...Mistook the kershaw motor mounts for the center drives in the pictures...

lipo area minus tvp

driveshaft clearance

empty battery area
My current lipo maxamp 4s 8400 30c
45 tall 65 wide 140 long

Max length I think you can install if you move the lipo bracket forward is 156mm
Max height current is 51 mm I think I can lower the bracket 3 more mm for 54 total without raising the mmm up in the air.

Thanks for the pics man!
Unfortunately it looks like there is no way I can fit my 168mm neu pack in there...

Maybe the kershaw drive will offer more room? I will post pics of that too, after I get it.
You could always make the tvp plates 20mm longer. I would guess that Kershaw could find you some drive shafts that would work.

I was gonna get a 12t pinion to go with my direct drive. However, you guys are saying a 23t pinon?!? I (basically) have an XL with big joe tires, 52t spur. Running Mamba monster 2200kv combo (basically neu 1515 1y). What pinion should I go with?

Well the stock rear-end ratio is 3.31
The stock ratio of the 3 speed in high gear is 1.53 to 1

Kershaw Direct drive is 45 diff gear with a 18 tooth center gear=2.50 to 1
If you use all of these numbers, compare your old setup with your new setup, or just pick a speed you want to run, you can then pick your pinion size.
I need to run a 27 tooth (from a previous 16 tooth) to mantain the same speed (48 mph)
I'm also running a Neu 1515 1Y on 4s until my 6s shows up in the mail.

Well, I don't have an old setup to compare it to, lol. I just ordered my brushless setup and the gearbox at the same time. I was running a nitro before, and I don't know what kinds of loads the electrics can handle before overheating, which is why I was asking.

So I just got my mamba combo and my motor mount and you guys are saying that the tranny in my savage XL is going to fail soon? I didnt figure the tranny would handle the mamba combo, guess I'll be ordering a kershaw direct drive too!!

The 2 @ 3 speed hold up ok the 4s power, But if your running 6s then you will need direct drive setup.

Agreed, I have been running a 4s with a 2 and 3 speed with no issues at all, the 6s will tear it up like you se most post pics of their destroyed trannys.

Is there any way to beef up the 3 speed to handle the extra stress? I was really looking forward to seeing my savage shift gears with a 6s powering it but dont want to deal with the hassle of breaking trannys all the time. 4s is out of the question, go big or go home!!!

I'm going to run my Neu 1515 1y on 6s with the 3 speed until it explodes again (it let go on 4s once already) then I will be switch over to the direct drive (which is on order).
Does anyone know how to keep the gears from wobbling on the clutches inside the tranny? Would anyone be intersted in buying a some stronger gears for teh stock 3 speed. The gear that broke in my 3 speed was the "cast" geat that drives the very bottom gear in the tranny. I thought about having that gear made out of steel so that it was stronger. BTW watching the savage shift very cool.

Hi all,

Been following this thread with interest as I really want to convert an XL, but I was just wondering, why isn't anyone using the stuff from the Savage Flux to convert the XL's to brushless - doesn't it fit or something?

I see the main problems appear to be the transmission and motor mounts, and I just had a look on ebay - the flux motor mounts and single speed trannys are available from the "chop shops" for pretty good prices.

The flux drive train seems to be happy dealing with the castle neu 2200kv motor and 6s lipos, so I would have though it may be a worthy consideration to covert a XL.

thanks guys
-Sid

cuz theFLux hadn't been released yet when this thread was made. BUt ya, the the flux tranny will hold up. You need to make your own motor mount htouhg, cuz the flux oen requires special TVP's, and won't fit the castle-neu motor anyways. Only fits smooth cans (the flux motor is smooth where the mounts attach).
