MMM v3 Loose Bullet? - 02.07.2009, 04:50 PM

I have an MMM v3 with bullets all around and a 1515/2.5d, it has been running great for about 10 packs however today it started stuttering and chirping. I assumed a loose motor wire so I checked everything over and it seems like the middle motor bullet was loose inside the MMM. I ended up giving it a nudge to the side and I ran fine until my packs were empty but I wanted to see if this is something others have run into?

The bullet connectors can get loose over time, especially with repeated plugging or unplugging. I just shove an appropriate size allen wrench into the end of the connector and give it a twist. This will expand it a bit and give a better connection. Eventually they may need to be replaced.

Thanks for the note, good point about the bullets themselves.

In this case I was referring to the female bullet that sits inside the MMM, it looks like it may have come loose from the circuit board. I was wondering if this was something that does happen or is it extremely rare.

Sounds like a cold solder joint. You could probably fix it but that would most likely void the warranty...

Good point :).

I'm going to see how it goes because it took over 6 weeks to get my MM back (came in today) after sending it in for warranty repair. In that case it was a new system with only 60 seconds of runtime so it was frustrating. At this point I'm skittish because I don't know if I want to chance being without my primary ride for a long time unless it dies again, but I will watch the warranty period to make sure I do something before it's out.

Along those lines I have a custom wiring configuration for my batteries and it would be a real pain to pull it for the new ones with directly connected wires. Is that all that is available or is it possible to keep bullets?

Picture below for reference, if anyone is wondering I am not taking credit for the build, it looks like longbill76's build since I bought it from him.

Nice build. Looks really clean and tidy.

Yeah, a 3628800:1 runtime ratio (6 weeks vs 1 minute) must really suck! If funds allow, maybe pick up a spare MMM? Not ideal, I know, but may be better than waiting...

I remember that build. The carbon blockoff plate and esc mount give it away. Very nice.I have a brand new never ran v3 that has a socket that the male bullet will fall out of, and when I checked My other two v3s also have bullets that the male bullets will rock in the sockets. I guess they all need a trip to Castle. Spreading the male bullet will just buy time untill it just stops making good contact and burns the plug.

That really sucks! Just send it in. I also had this with my Velineon ESC, I tried to solder it myself, but now it's 1 big mess. It still works now, but if I unplug the motor it will come loose again...
