Tmaxx 3.3 [4908]to Brushless -
03.05.2009, 02:02 PM
I bought this bout 2 months ago and already had enough of nitro,i was into nitro years ago and forgot how much work it is.i do not have the time for it,dont get me wrong when i tune this and set it up it runs great but i do not feel like walking around with a screw driver and temp gauge while driving it,i would like to convert to brushless,i been reading a lot and it seems most of the older tmaxx have problems going to brushless, with this having driveline parts from the revo i was wandering if i could just make a motor mount and add a motor and esc and battery ,useing my mechanical brake that i already have,i thought i could pop a velineon but after researching i can see this will get to hot.i also thought of a castle creations i thought i could use the mamba max but this is not enough for MT and leaves me with the maba monster,my question is
1: how will this MM run on 3s since i have a lot of these from my electric rc
planes
2: will this work with my drive line by just bolting it up,i am not looking for extreme speeds.i would be happy around 40, so if there are other solutions for this speed running this setup with 3s i am all ears
any input or suggestions are welcome
Thanks Ron

3s is not enough to power that large of a truck to 40mph
You could get away with a Mamba max on 4s w/ a fan and external bec.
If you dont want to worry about temps or anything, get the MMM 2200kv combo and run 4s+

Thats is what i thought myself, but since i had a load of 3s i was hopeing to get decent speeds with them, guess i am going to have to get some 4s,i can always use them in the planes,i have motors and esc that are rated for them i just always used the 3s since i had so many, i am leaning toward the MMM2200 combo and get it over with and not worry bout temps.
i can putts around for a while with the 3s and see how it is then buy the 4s,this combo price is enough to swallow the batts will come later
thanks for the reply

I thought of that to to run 3s in a series for 6s but i really do not want that much speed,i think it will be to much power and i am not after super fast somewhere in between,i want some ump to it and also not a lead sled kinda where its running now even a tad slower would not be bad,i am sure i will try it anyway when i put it together
Thanks for repy

anyone have any thoughts of this driveline on this truck and if it would hold up to this setup?

The maxx diffs will not hold up to BL power long. I started converting my maxx...but sold everything but the FLM chassis. I would recommend getting these... http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...LM18700&cat=45 A tad expensive, but, w/1/8 gears will make it bomb proof.

A mm on a 4s setup with a fan and an external ubec with feigao 540xl on 4s will have plenty of torque and with around 1900kv to 2080kv aka 9xl or 8xl with proper gearing will hit 40mph. Specific combos such as the one ben mentioned arent your only option when it comes to brushless. You should also take a look into the 80a hw esc that mikes selling here on rcm. That would be a great budget esc.

But if this was my choice on what to get I would go for a MMM and a Medusa 70mm. Medusas have great rep because of their neu type build and they are a bump cheaper than the CC 8th scale 2200kv motors.

Amen to that idea, a nice 70mm 1600kv motor would do nicely with the MMM esc and 2x 3s lipos (whats the spec on those exactly?).
Custom L-shaped motor mount would be simple enough to make, and some velcro straps for the lipos either side of the chassis...

Best thing to do is just sell the tmaxx and buy an emaxx or erevo.

+1 on this... honestly I think that selling off the tmaxx, and buying an erevo roller would be the best bet. If will hadle brushless better, and you do not have to fool with mech brakes. I build a brushless tmaxx a long time ago, and it sucked, bad balance with the motor on one side, and no room for lipos. I had to build everytrhing, and in the end it was just a bunch of work. You could buy a new emaxx chassi/tranny/ and center driveshafts for it, but most likely selling it complete is a better idea.
The MMM combo is your best bet. You can get them for around 270, which is a great deal. If you buy a MM, and mod it, and buy an external bec, and then an xl or medusa motor you have spent more than the combo...

well first i just want to say thanks for everyone that took time to respond, now after reading i have so many ideas my heads spinning,LOL.but that's what i wanted some good feedback.couple options from all this i am coming up with is get the MM2200 combo this way i know i will have no heat or power problem, just a big price.and put this on and see how it runs with my 3s,most of my batts are 3s 25 c up to 4500mah i have smaller mah one i can always parallel or series them .if i do not like it i can put the nitro stuff back on it and sell it as a nitro tmaxx my truck has bout 1 1/2 gal threw it so its still fresh, and buy the emaxx roller and switch the esc and motor over to that,or as takedown said i have other options with the motor esc,but i still have to think of the drive line and as it was mentioned the diff will not hold up with the t.as i type this i am still kicking myself for getting nitro in the first place ,since the last few years i have been flying brushless and would never go back gas with the planes,as i love the power and simplicity of the electric, should have bought emaxx roller and built up from there, hindsight.my neighbor wanted to get into the plane hobby with me and just could not get the flying down so i buddyboxxed with him and still had no feel,so his idea was to get some cars which led to the LHS and left with a 1,000 bill and 2 tmaxx nitros, which neither of us has the time for, even buying a new emaxx i still would have to pull new motors and esc and replace for bruchless to use my lipo so a roller would have been the ticket,500 lesson learned LOL its just money.so thanks again ,i will step back and reread the psot and make somekind of thought out decision
Ron
ps,anyone want an tmaxx, LOL

CC 2200Kv on 3S is not advisable especially on a heavy MT. At a minimum, try to run 4s but since you have 3S packs, just run them in series to make 6S. Of course, your driveline, tranny, and diffs will be torn to pieces.
