Next brushless/ lipo setup? - 12.08.2005, 01:56 AM

I currently have a Emaxx with a Novak HV Maxx setup in it. Im looking for more power, but Im still a brushless newb. Im going to get Lipolys first, because Im still running 3600 stick packs, then Im gonna want a new brushless setup.
Right now my truck is pretty light. I have Panther KLPs, 4 shocks, and a pretty severely dremeled/ lightened body and chassis. I think Im planning to run a pair of 2s3p lipo packs, rated @ 90 amps constant and 120 peak, unless someone otherwise enlightens me. Right now I think i want a 9920 and a Feigao 8L, and I would run a UBEC and the heatsink clamp.
My question is, can anyone tell me if lipo packs rated @ 90 amps can handle an 8L, and can a 9920 handle it?

An 8L is a pretty hot motor, i would consider a lower KV motor, perhaps a bigger one too, (XL over the L, have you seen the movie on this forum of Nick, with a 7XL on 14 cells?) that thing is pretty quick.

An 8L would require about 50amps continuous on 4s Lipo. In my 1/8 buggy, I ran an 8L that would overheat (overgeared), and I was running 40amp continuous Lipos.

I agree with Serum, the 8L is a hot motor.

For a pair of 3s2p lipos in a series = 6s2p lipo, you need a 12L motor or an 8 or 9 XL. And the hv-maxx can only handle 4s so the 3s2p packs will have to be configured in 3s4p for that.

I have ran a 14 L on 18 cells. It is not all that I am used to. I like the 9xl much better.

Peace!

I plan on running a pair of 2s3p packs in series, meaning a 4s3p total. Which Im sure a HV maxx can handle.

I wanted to stay away from the Xl motors because of the weight, especially weight at the top of the truck. I thought I could get away with an 8L because of how light my truck is. I might do a 9L instead though.

From what I can remember, ive taken off the front bumper, four of the shocks, the body mounts, the upper parts of the skids, the outer parts of the rear bumper, large chunks of the chassis battery trays, the rear-most shock mounts on the front tower, most of the weight of the tires, and one of the motors, since its now brushless. Im guesstimating its about 2 lbs lighter than a stock Emaxx, and it has a significantly lower cg because the batteries are on the bottom of the chassis, and the body sits about 2 inches lower than stock. Driving it, it doesnt feel like a monster truck anymore. With the small tires, stiffer suspension, and lighter weight, it feels pretty much like a buggy.

The 8L will be a rocketship in that lightweight beast. Not too hot for it, either. I think the 9L would still be a better choice, as it gets better runtimes. For a truck that light, I think I would even use a Lehner basic xl2800 or a 1930/8 motor for it(lighter, longer runtime and plenty of power). You should have no trouble with the Lipos you mentioned. It looks like your front camber could use some adjustment there, my friend! :)
Nice truck.

Why do you say this? Im not doubting you, Im just asking your reasoning. I thought a lot of negative camber could help these tires grip the dirt. And thanks alot for all the help and comments.

Yea that was the idea. I decided i wanted a 4wd stadium truck back when the only 4wd st I had heard of was that HPI belt driven one, and I didnt like the idea of belts + off road.
