a MMM v3 that WORKS - 03.16.2009, 05:38 AM

since no one seems to post how WELL their MMM's go, it's always MMM caught fire or MMM up in smoke.
here's one of the good ones

phil my friend (i set him up, he races while i'm stuck on cash probs..so i run the noisy smoker revo)
he's running a MMM v3 early model (bullets on battery side) with a medusa 2000kv 70mm motor in a revo platnium 3905 conversion.
geared 12/65
running 6s 5000mah zippy-H 20-30c batts.

under race condition...
motor NEVER goes past 130*f
ESC never has even used the fan...EVER (only on startup)
runs pretty slow but that's fine for race conditions.
his punch and brake curves are pretty tamed down.

going very well.

on the other hand, another guy with a mugen MBX5 buggy.
running a sippy 20c 4s pack on the 2200kv combo.
geared for 50mph
runs resonably cool.

but has settings turned right up, this resulted in the regenerative voltage to spike to 40+ volts, thus killing the MMMv3

so the moral of the story is...
if u wanna use cheap packs, crank up the voltage, turn down the settings and gear down.

if u wanna go nuts, get the best packs u can find and then u can probably crank the settings up a bit keeping heat in check

Cool! It's good to read people's success stories with the Monster for a change. Glad to hear it's working well for you.

I'd also like to mention my MMM. It's a V1 with 1.20 firmware and a V3 case, and only has about 6 or 7 runs on it since I started running it last week...but it's been perfect. The truck it's in has had some hideous crashes and it's been bounced, cartwheeled, flipped...and never skipped a beat. The fan still works fine, and even the standard switch is still working. I couldn't be happier with it. Plus, the case doesn't show any signs of coming apart.

I'm running it in a Havoc on 35C 5000mah 5S Elite LiPos, and a Castle/Neu 2200. Motor's not getting above 120F at most, and I haven't even bothered temping the ESC. Love it. I couldn't agree more that GOOD cells will make for a happy MMM.

My V2 survived for 4 month (about 10 runs ) before it died. Actually it has died twice before, both were cured by myself, replacing the switch and fan. This time is different, it has gone. This is much better than my first V2 though, which worked for just 2 minutes and gone.

Wish me a good luck for the coming V3.

First, it's Zippy, not sippy. No idea where you got that from.

From the eagletree results I've seen from my Zippy, it does not perform like a "cheap pack" to me. Kicking out 150A and dropping only ~2v seems to be pretty good performance in my book.

I have V1, V2 and V3 MMM ESC's that have all been running flawlessly for months. I can't really complain.

Zippys are POS compared to proper cells. You claim 2v at 150A? per cell maybe.

I have 3 MMMv2 still running hardcore, all run on 6s lipo (zippy cells haha, I wish I could afford good cells)

i have had a few v2's and v3's fail but the current v3 is running strong (on the chassis) and has been for 3-4 race weekends. strong enough for me to TQ and wind sportsman 1/8 at hotrod two weekends in a row.

Have had nothing but great luck with the MMM, aside from a V2 failure (but I bought it knowing this would happen).

Right now I have 2 MMM V3 and a MMM V1 which was part of the first batch. This V1 is still running the internal BEC with NO case modifications, but no fan.

Two MMM v3s going strong here, plenty of packs through them. If ten guys complain of failures it does seem like a lot, but really that is only .08% failure out of the 12k units sold off. Gotta have perspective that a few failures posted online are not that many in relation to how many are actually out there. Even if it does fail, you can bet Castle is there to back you up and get you running again. I can't say so much for HW, can't even get an email back from them.

And even with the HW ESCs, there have been failures. Who knows how many have been sold? I am willing to bet there is less than 1 HW ESC out there for every 4 MMMs.
