Figured out what's wrong. - 03.22.2009, 03:38 AM

Hey everyone. So I ended up figuring out what was wrong with my G2R.

The rear diff is toast. I drove it today and it was clicking every time under hard acceleration. Then started clicking more, and more, and more and now its clicking under any power at all. Held the truck by the wing and gave it some gas and the front wheels lit up and the rears were still.

I was kind of looking for an excuse to get Mike's diffs anyway. Now, he told me a new batch should be ready soon.

Anyway, I was more so wondering on a good 17mm conversion?

I saw Tekno came out with their own set while I was away. Any info on how well these hold up?

I'm also find with looking into other 17mm solutions. However, I would like a setup that is solid and doesn't have much play/wobble. I'd rather pay more for a decent set.

Thanks all.

Best 17mm setup is probably to get the RD racing knuckles and 8mm axles with some buggy hubs. The Tekno is quite a bit cheaper, and aside from aluminum vs. plastic, I don't think you'll notice any difference. If I'm not mistaken though, the Tekno has 3 adjustments for the turnbuckle, as apposed to only 1 I believe, so if adjustability matters, get the Tekno. I wouldn't really worry about durability either since the Tekno seems to be pretty stout and has the aluminum rings to keep the pivot ball from pulling out.

Glad to hear you figured out that problem! For 17mm hexes, Traxxas makes their own set now and they seem pretty solid. If I still had a Revo and were looking for a 17mm hex setup, I would choose the Traxxas ones.

Hmm...Cool. Traxxas ones it is. It's gonna kill my black/red theme with the blue, but oh well. Maybe I'll strip the blue off sometime as silver fits in fine.

I think I'm going to go ahead and get some pictures taken of my Revo 2.5R and T-Maxx and put those up for sale. Not sure what to do with my Jato. I think I want to convert it to brushless. Nothing too crazy powerful though. I was thinking of having a top speed of about 50mph. I already get pretty close to his with my E-Revo so this thing should have NO problem doing it considering it is so much smaller and lighter.

Any recommendations?

I'm going to run 3S packs in it in conjunction with the spare Mamba Max ESC I already have. I was thinking of just getting a CC 5700KV motor on 3S? Or maybe a Neu 1509 (1512 seems overkill).

Any thoughts?

I'd say 1509 or Medusa 60 should do nicely.

But why the Traxxas hubs? From what I've seen, there as nice as they get for the stock axles, but I'm pretty sure they get sloppy. If you got the $$ I'd get the Tekno at least.
